I love this image - the very strong graphic nature and the abstract feeling it gives the structure. It has the feeling of a movie set. You have a wonderful portfolio and I really like you portrait work. You do a beautiful job with black and white. I love to find images like this that make me jealous... Thanks for sharing -

  1. I can imagine their conversation in my head. The image makes me wonder just what have they seen in all their years and what a shame they can't speak any more than they do in the photo. Think of the conversations they supported. The worries, fears, joys and day to day living that passed around them. The image doesn't create the feeling of sadness in me. They seem very content and happy to be passing another afternnoon in each other's company. I really love this image - just great in every way -

  2. Another eye-catching image in your collection. It seems to me that the chest of drawers is about to get up and walk around the room with the sense of motion the curves and hard shadows give the piece. Perhaps a simple country piece of furniture, but your photo seems to inspire it to stand up tall. As you mention, sometimes the best photos are waiting just around the corner.

  3. This is a wonderful image for all of the reasons listed above - color, texture and the geometry of the compositions, and like the others, it really brings out a nostalgic feeling in me. I don't know if it is because I am getting older or the world actually is getting worse (shades of my father here, I realize...) but this image brings me back to a time I would like to believe was simpler. Here is a hinge that has lasted 150 years or so. I saw some hinges the other day that lasted a few years before they were trashed. And the simple elegance of the design of this hinge - they didn't have to make the wonderful spade shape on the left end - a square strap would have worked just as well - but they did. The mustard/green color of the paint stands out against the traditional white clapboards without being garrish. I am always interested in images like this that have the power to send viewers off to daydream. Thanks for sharing it -

  4. This is a lovely portrait of a lovely subject  -  the positioning of the hands is really adds to the subtle feeling of the image - the soft colors, soft expression, soft lighting and mood really complement the overall feeling of the photo - just wonderful - thanks for sharing it with us -

What a fantastic shot! It really is surreal. To have a man standing with a basket of who-knows-what on his head wondering why a man would be standing with a book on his head wearing painted socks just can't be beat. That you also took this from a car is just icing on the cake! I can just imagine this image being discovered a million years from now by alien visitors to the planet.... I think the world is a better place with this image -

I have been following your work in the street/documentary thread and missed this image - glad I found it here. I am a big fan of these types of highly graphic images. This one is just perfect, not only compositionally and technically, but because of the man walking and talking on the phone. He seems so small and insignificant in the space he is walking through, and to me it seems like he needs to talk to someone else to keep from feeling that insignificance. It is a throughly modern image for me - in this day and age is seems like nobody is willing to spend more than a moment with their own thoughts, but must be chattering through some electronic device to keep from being swallowed up by the universe. Fantastic shot - I am jealous...

Great shot of the animal! We have many around us in the south-east corner of Connecticut, and hear them howling every night, but it is very rare for us to catch more than an flash of them as they go by. He certainly looks good and healthy. I really like the way the dark band in the woods sweeps from the top right corner down to the bottom left, futher drawing the eye along the path it is taking - a nice visual sweep to the image leading the visitor from our world back to his - you must have been very quick on your feet to capture this one!

Great image - I like the way we as viewers have to keep shifting our focus from one eye to the other to comprehend the shot - sort of a visual pun for the eyes about eyes that seems to force the viewer to engage the animals. It really makes for a dynamic image - very rare indeed and very effective!

This is a great series of images - a great concept and well done. I think this is my favorite from the series, although it is a tough call. I think the mystery, along with the atmospheric feeling you have in this one is fantastic, and the warm tone to it seems perfect. Nicely done, and as a series, even more fun -

  5. I am not sure what a schizocarp is, but this is a beautiful photo of one. It reminds me of decorative ironwork from old fencing. Wonderful color and use of depth of field for it. I also like the way the black boarder fits in with the black stem heading down the photo. It is always wonderful when someone makes so much out of something most people would never even stop to look at -

I always love it when something with nothing in it is done so well. If you can make a great image with these few things, you know what you are doing. Not everything has to shout to be heard....

This is a wonderful portrait - the tones are perfect for her - I especially like the softness and whiteness of her sweater on her right shoulder contrasting with the darker left side of her face and shoulder. The story you included about her past really makes the image all the more powerful, and I think it is a shame photographers often think a photo must stand on its own, without words. While this portrait can certainly stand with the best of them, having those few words you shared alters what the viewer brings to the image and draws out of it. Her intense gaze directly into the viewer's eyes is all the more meaningful. To think of what those eyes have seen, and to see her now wrapped in a pristine sweater and bathed in soft light is an amazing thing. Just a lovely, lovely portrait in every respect. This is the type of image that makes me grab a camera and go out and try again. Thanks for sharing the photo and her story with us -

Very nicely done - great tones, composition, etc. It is very refreshing to see such quite and simple images in today's world where more seems to always be better... This is the type of image you can sit down with a cup of tea to contemplate. Thanks for sharing it-
