The shutter blades are clean and free of oil, the aperture blades also clean and work properly. Shutter not firing - could be a problem with the selenium cell. The shutter is controlled by the cell and AFAIK a problem with the cell can cause the shutter to not work. Could also simply be the release mechanism. DIY repair would not be easy w/o proper tools - plus if it needs parts - i.e. a selenium cell, you would be out of luck. Did you turn the front dial to manual f-stops designed for flash? Try that. And with toh back off an film removed try advancing the film sprockets with your thumb.

If you already have a 16-50 you might consider a Sony 50f1.8 or Sigma 60f2.8 - either is affordable and test favorably. If you are looking for a replacement or have no lens the try a 16-70 and make sure you can return if your example does not test well.

The Calumet Cadet seems to be the answer however I can not remember ever having one. Thanks for the link!

In the past there was definitely a delete option for classifieds - I used it frequently to help keep the message board clean and smaller, also so when doing a search for a specific item, items would not come up that the searcher would then find were marked SOLD.
