Greetings-
Has anyone used an SB-28 on a D70? If so, any problems?

Hi Anthony-
I used my F100 and SB28 combo with NPH. Since I was a newbie and afraid to gamble, I just put the F100 on P and the SB-28 on matrix TTL. All the shots came out very nice in terms of exposure. Composition was OK too (sorry to brag). The only shots that did not come out were the ones in full sun at the beach house abolutely no clouds on a clear September day on Block Island. And yes I used fill flash and it was still too contrasty.
Just keep extra batteries around for the flash and the camera.
I've never attached an image to this board, so I hope I don't get yelled at by the moderator for improper file size etc. Here is a low-res scan of a print.

Hi Alan-
Thanks for your reply.
Non-macro shots and other flash shots are fine. Yesterday I burned a roll of 200 ektachrome on some bugs. The second half of the roll I overexposed (1/3 and 2/3)with the exposure compensation dial. We'll see what happens.
Thanks-

Greetings All-
I am experiencing a long-standing problem with my FM3A - it always
underexposes when I shoot with my 55 mm or 105 mm macro Nikkor macro
lenses (using 100 or 200 slide film). This is with an SB-28 and SC-
17. It does not matter if I use an extension tube or not, it still
underexposes. I can set the camera at the flash sync (1/250th sec),
drag the shutter (125th, 60th or 30th) or aperture priority and it
still does this. Full flash, fill flash, any aperture, all
underexposed.
As a control, my F100 and FE-2 do not exhibit this problem. They
are right on the money. As a second control, the FM3a with any
other normal lens or even a macro lens without the flash is fine.
Anyone else observe this? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks Eric. Yes, I understand Tiger's caddie has a pretty crusty personality - especially with photographers.

Anyone going to the PGA Championship at Baltusrol this week in
Springfield, NJ?
I'll be there on practice days with two Nikons and my biggest lens
(80-400 VR).

Thanks, all. You photo.net people are awesome supplements to user manuals.

Greetings all-
Two questions really.
The 80-400 VR has three modes: VR, On and Off. When the lens is
on "on" does it take the same image as it would if it were on "VR"?
Secondly does the lens use less battery power on the "on" mode
compared to the "VR" mode?
Thanks-

I would like to thank you all for your suggestions. Since there is already 400 film loaded in the camera I may have to shoot at a smaller aperture. Moreover since I'm the father of the bride I will not be able to incorporate many of your excellent suggestions due to the logistical nightmare and complete chaos that exists in this household.
Thanks

Greetings All-
My daughter is getting married today and I am to photograph she and
all of the bridesmaids (I am not the pro doing the wedding). My
problem is a distracting background for the shoot.
Will I get a proper exposure if I shoot wide open (2.8) with a D-
lens, the F100 on aperture priority and my SB-28 at -1.7? (I'm a
manual camera person and still getting used to the F100 system).
Oh yeah, it's 400 speed film shooting in the shade.
Thanks in advance-

Bags and backpacks are not allowed into Yankeed stadium

Greetings All-
I was given front row (next to first base) tickets to a Yankees game
and would like to bring my 80-400 lens to the game. I was wondering
if anyone has ever brought a lens of that size into a stadium?
There was a "lens Nazi" posting a few months agao, but was wondering
if anyone had any experience at Yankee stadium specifically.
Thanks in advance-

Greetings all-
The flash sync of the F100 is 1/60 to 1/250. Is 1/60th considered
dragging the shutter?

I think one of the biggest changes, in the States of course, is the inclusion of children in the wedding proper. That is children of the bride and groom. With so many devorces and re-marriages, kids play an important role in that special day.
My first wedding as a second shooter is in a few weeks. The B&G already have two kids.

I am thinking of purchasing the Tamron 28-75 2.8. Does anyone have
any comments on the Nikon 35-70 2.8 before I make my final
decision? I know it's a somewhat smaller range than the Tamron, but
I'm looking for a fast, sharp wedding lens. The critics may say
that with the Nikon 35-70 you may as well just get a 50 mm (I
already have one), but when you are doing candids at weddings, I
find prime lenses difficult at times.
Thanks-

Greetings Nee-
I use the SB-28 on the FM3a. On the SB-28 you can change the iso setting when you turn the flash on - the iso setting blinks for a few seconds. If you miss this short window of time, you have to turn the flash off and on again to reset the iso. Perhaps the SB-800 works in a similar fashion.

No strap had no effect on image quality.
Having a strap on you camera make it easier to pee, however.

Jairy-
I will be doing a similar thing this season. I hope to photograph all the kids on my son's baseball team - while they are out daydreaming in the outfield (they are 7-year olds). It's a close-knit town, I know half the parents and with COSCTO film processing, which is actually better than Kodak it will only cost me $7USD.
I know the pres. of the town little league too. If things work out, I may ask him if he wants to "work something out" I won't get rich, but I just hope to make a few bucks.
Which brings up a story. Our family used to vacation at a Dude Ranch in New York state. Some local photographer would park himself on the trail and photograph all the vacationers on the bridal path riding horses. He would come back later that evening and charge $20 for each 5 x 7. They sucked, no fill flash, harsh shadows, the subject filled less than half the frame and he didn't even have a strap on the camera.
With respect to my endeavor, I will put a business label on the back of each print and if the parents want to pay me, fine. If not, maybe they will hire me for a local event.
Like you, I have a primary profession and burn film on a part-time basis (wedding, parties etc) and love every minute of it.
Good luck-

A wedding photo colleague (and good friend) recommends shooting XP-2 at 320. Why is that?

Greetings-
I was wondering if any pro wedding photographers use these lenses.
And if so, any commnets on the quality of the image?
