Spectacular. A novel could be written just based on the picture you've made. Apart from the wonderful imagery you've provided, I think the strength here is the untold, what the viewer implies or creates in his/her mind. Love it.

Beautiful comibnation of cool colors, and the background is well done, contributing energy with the blue/white motif. I think it would be more static and less enjoyable if it were a solid color. Good job.

    Alexandre,

Yes, it is the sun - I was able to hide it behind enough branches to avoid flare. I shot at 2.8 to make sure it appeared round in the photo. Thanks for your comment.

    Black or white

I would maybe try both - cropping get rid of the irregularity, but the you lose the curve of the blurred geese's body mirrored by the curve of the neck in front. Do that and see what looks best. Best Regards!

    Summer Storm

I know this is not the most impressive shot of lightning ever done,

but I think it's about more than that. Perhaps not very bright on my

part, but I stood my ground as the storm raged over top of me. Rain

hadn't begun to fall yet so I was able to take advantage of the

effects of the wind on the clouds and weeds. The original was in

color, but I converted to black and white as I thought it better

suited the subject and atmosphere. I did get shots with multiple

lightning strikes, but this remains my favorite.

  1. Thanks all for the comments - much appreciated!

Thomas - no ND filter was used, I lowered the camera bit by bit until I had eliminated flare but still had a good touch of the sun-lit mist. Positioning was limited, too, as this was taken from a small bridge that spans the creek.

Walter - It's Sensia, which of course is the same thing as Provia, just the consumer version. I like the palette and it's cheaper than Provia and I have yet to have any quality issues that would make me feel the need to spend a bit more.

great capture - bet it's beautiful uncompressed. The turn of the head and angle of both tail and feather make a very graceful shape -love the pattern of highlights in the background too.
