Seems the consensus is to go with the D90. I figured that was going to be the case and will be glad to order it in a month or two or maybe even wait a little bit longer for a price drop. I am still happy with my D70S like ive said and will be happy to make it my secondary once I get the D90.
Thanks to everyone who voiced their opinion and happy shooting.

Ive been using my D70s for a few years now and I love it, but the noise at ISO 800 has always bothered me
although I have gotten plenty of good shots though over the years. Im looking at the D80 and D90. If the D80 is a
significant upgrade in picture quality than I would prefer that route and save some moneys. If the D90 is really
worth the extra money than I would rather wait for a price drop and keep shooting my D70s. I would like the
second camera sooner rather than later so bear that in mind. I would like to use two cameras one with the Sigma
18-50mm F/2.8 and the other with the 85mm F/1.8D Nikkor at weddings.

The R1 chip is definetly not going to be in the D200. No one even knows if its a Sony chip to begin with. It would be cool if it were a Fuji chip, just imagine the dynamic range in the pictures.
-
Its broken! quick go buy a D200!
-
I would keep the F3HP, and if you have any manual lenses and want to matrix meter with them keep the F4. The F100s completely make the N90 unnecessary.
-
You should also look at the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 HSM. It sells for under $800 and is probably the best regarded Sigma.

D2H vs D1X
in Nikon
Marc, the two versions of the D2H are the ruglar model and the newer D2Hs. The small improvements arent really worth the extra $1000 you would pay over a clean used D2H. -
When you are talking about cheap zooms($300 or less) third party lenses will generally(some exceptions apply) not be as good as Nikkors. Once you get into Pro caliber lenses third-party zooms and primes are close to Nikkor quality.
-
I think you mean 50mm f/1.4, an f/4 lens is three stops slower and wouldnt be good at all for available light shooting.
-
You should really consider the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 HSM. Many reviews say its on par with the Canon 2.8L
-
Yes it will be equivalent to 105-300mm. No teleconverter required :)
-
He wasnt lying, the lenses WILL mount but they WON'T meter. If your friend has a seperate handheld meter than this wont be a problem. They only lenses to really stay away from then would be non-ai lenses. On a side note the AI-P manual lenses will meter, but they are still manual focus.

What I would like to know is how does the 24-85mm f/2.8-4 D compare to the 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 G in terms of distortion. I hear that the G at 24 is extreme.
-
If you have steady hands and/or have either a monopod or tripod you get nearly the same quality but at nearly half the price.
-
Also consider Sigma macros, they are cheaper so you get a longer focal legth and better working distance at a great price.
-
Whats all this talk about IX lenses? Originally the G lenses were cheap consumer zooms that werent sealed well at all. The new pro G lenses that are comming out have the same level of weather sealing as the pro D lenses, this includes the DX zooms.
-
Like Adam says theres nothing wrong with switching lenses while the camera is on.
-
The only 35mm Nikkor thats fully "compatible" with the D70 is the AF 35mm f/2 D.
-
I dont have a D70 so I cant help you as for as canceling the Pop up flash. But if it cant be cancelled you can put together a little black flash cover. Just look around for some tape and a thick dark material.

Thanks for the info David, I would love to have the 80-200 f2.8 dont get me wrong. I dont mind the extra weight, but I can buy the N90s(about $230 at adorama) and 80-200 f4($159 at KEH) for a few hundred dollars less than the 80-200 f2.8. I also prefer the longer focus throw for fune tuning, I tend to focus in one area at a time so as to get a thourough perscpective of my subject(s).

Only AF and chipped MF lenses work with the N65, what kind of lens are you looking for? Do you need a tele are a wideangle? Prime or zoom? Also whats your budget. that shopgoodwill.com site looks really lame I dont know why you want to get anything from there.
-
Are you looking for a telezoom? Because thats what it sounds like. Whats your budget? If you dont mind a slow f4-5.6 lens I suggest the Nikkor AF-S 55-200mm f/4-5.6 G DX(about $250-$300). If you want something with a more pro design at a reasonable price get the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 APO IF HSM(under $800). If you dont care about the money then the Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 G VR($1700) is the best money can buy.

Adam, Im planning on using the AIS wide open almost all the time for its shallow DOF. Otherwise Id go with the 70-210 4-5.6 D in a snap.
