I like Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Washington; Denver, Colorado; Vancouver, B.C., Canada; Auckland, New Zealand; Sydney Australia; Hong Kong oh hell, I like them all. I always find something interesting to shoot in any city.

Bring the 70-200 f/2.8 IS, you won't regret it. If concerned with carry-on weight and bulkiness, try a wheeled carry-on specifically made for cameras and lenses. Think Tank, Lowe Pro, Tamrac all offer such bags. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, do it right the first time. I know it's weighty but I made that decision and brought my 5D and 70-200 f/2.8 IS to Washington D.C. from Honolulu, Hawaii and it was definitely worth it.

JC: How was the video function of the 500D (that's T1i in the USA)?

-

I agree, send it directly to the nearest Canon Factory Service Center yourself and explain the problem. Canon will ask you to include a letter with your name, address, phone number and email address plus the problem. Explain that you sent it through your dealer but now the lens is worse.
Can you confirm your dealer sent it directly to either the New Jersey or Irvine, California service center or did he say he did but instead used an authorized third party repair center?
I've dealt with the Irvine repair center with no problems whatsoever.

Would be cool, a 50D upgrade with video.

I've had great success so far with the Canon Factory Service Center in Irvine, CA. The mirror on my 5D fell off and I sent it to them. About a week later, I received an email station it'll be repaired at no charge and should expect it back in about 7 working days. It been about 5 working days so it should arrive back to me soon.

Yeah I know I'm not special but it seems like their customer service has been getting better each year since I first read about it about 7 years ago.

Congratulations Canon on your excellent customer service and ability to stand behind your product. Last month, I noticed the mirror fell off my 5D. I sent it to the Canon Factory Service Center in Irvine, California this past week and received an email confirmation today (4/8/09). I expected a $200-$300 repair estimate since the camera is 3 years old and beyond the 1 year warranty. Low and behold, they sent an email saying the 5D will be repaired at no charge.
I was deciding on buying a 50D as my secondary camera or even a Nikon D300 (just for kicks) but to even think that is blasphemy. Even more so after that email from Canon. I'm buying a 50D and stick with Canon until my dying days.

Thank you very much Canon!

Thanks very much for all the excellent info you've been providing us these past 8+ years. Mahalo (Thank You) from Hawaii!

thanks Bob for clarifying DLA. At first Defense Logistics Agency came to mind but settled on Discrete Love Affair.

Another vote for the 24-105 f/4L and a Speedlight 580Z flash. That's been and still is my travel setup. Many great suggestions from others too so you should go try them to see what works.
My last trip to Washington DC from Honolulu though I brought along a Caon P&S, Powershot A720 IS instead of the 5D. It took great pictures with less weight.

24-105 f/4L or 24-70 f/2.8L is my choice for your 5D MkII. Usually my everyday lens is the 24-105 due to the weight comparison with the 24-70.

Canon EF-S 10-22 is plenty wide for your XTi. If you can stomach going longer, the 17-40L is an excellent lens.

-

My 5D is 3 years old and not planning to upgrade anytime soon.

-

Mine does the same even with a Hoya thin filter. I just up the f/stop a bit and that takes care of it. I have the 24-105L on a 5D. At night, I use a flash and if not, just have to crop the vignetting portion out with Photoshop.

The mirror came undone on my 5D. Sending it to Canon Service Center after the New Year.

The proper Japanese pronunciation is NEE-KON (long vowel O). Same goes for HON-DAH (Honda cars with the long vowel O).

I tried to take a picture today and found the same, the mirror had fallen off the frame that its attached to. i guess Canon is getting mine back for repairs too.

Walking around with a camera and lenses, will get old very fast, especially at Disney (Land or World). I would at most, bring the 10-22 and 24-70. Leave the 50 at home and use the 24-70 as your walk around lens. I went to Disney World 2 years ago for a business trip and just brought my 20D with a 24-70. Nonetheless, have a great trip!

Hmmm, Chinese site pretending toe be German. How suspicious but the USM is II, not the lens itself.

50 f/1.4 if you can afford it. If not, 50 f/1.8. Both are excellent lenses.
Where to Purchase 5D Mark II?
in Canon EOS Mount
