I've got a grip on my 5D and although it makes it heavier, it does make the camera easier handle with heavier lenses on. In regards to battery life, this is something I never worry about as 2 batteries charged fully seem to go on and on and on. Phenomenal.
My colleagues all agree with you and apart from the full frame capability of the 5D, the low noise at high iso settings is extraordinary.

Nearly all my portraits are taken using 70-200 f2.8 on a 5D. It is an excellent lens, though it will need a tri/monopod indoors as it's heavy. I have a 24-105 L series lens as well and that is also an ace lens though I have been told that the pictures taken with the 70-200mm tend to be more flattering.

I've bought a 5d and although a good camera it doesn't warrant the extra price over the 30d. The light metering on my 5d is awful, it's true about the blown highlights with 5d's.
I should have listened to the oracles on the photo.net forum.

So the Sigma 10-20 mm is better/sharper than the 12-24 mm - however it doesn't fit my Canon 5d?
I am even more confused than ever!
Many thanks

Thanks Prof, nice portfolio by the way.
I really liked the wide-angle pictures that I could get with the ef-s 10-22mm at 10mm and I was just wondering whether at 17mm, with a full frame camera such as the 5d, I could still achieve this? Is that 1mm such a big difference (16 mm equivalent vs 17mm)?
What I really would like to know is will I be missing things that the wider-angle Sigma 12-24mm lens could provide and are its limitations mentioned above recoverable within PhotoshopCS i.e. poorer colours, not as sharp as the 17-40mm L series lens?
I really appreciate the experience and opinion of those wiser than me.
Many thanks,
Kev

Dear George,
I think you are right and I'm leaning towards the Canon EF 17-40mm. I have looked at various comparison pictures on the web and I must say they are all different. I think you can get good and bad versions of the same lenses.
All I need to do now is tell the wife so I can release the funds. Easier said than done considering how many pairs of shoes that'll buy.....................................
Best wishes

Okay Chaps, is it the Sigma 12-24mm or the canon 17-40mm F4 L lens?
Many thanks,

Bloomin 'ek I am now even more confused than before! Ok chaps what's the best prime I should go for if you can't agree what type of zoom is best?

PS I'm the cleverer but skint type of doctor (PhD) unfortunately. This is compounded by the fact of this www.researchphotography.org - yeah I know I'm a socialist fool!

Dear All,
I have just bought a canon 5D and consequently sold my beloved 10-
22mm EF-s lens (which was great). I just loved the ultra wide-angle
shots I got at 10mm on my canon 20d. I now need to replace it and
have been told I should think about one of these three lenses. I am
not worried about size as all I am interested is the image
produced.
Canon EF 17-40mm F4 L LENS
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM
Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG ASPHERICAL
All are similar prices and so suggestions would be most appreciated.
With very best wishes,
Kev

'Draganising' the bride would be a sure-fire way to bankruptcy. I did that to my wife last week and she never talked to me for 24 hours.
At present even the cat is getting Draganised, it's really addictive.

I actually meant Napoleon!
I really look like this, my wife took it today at 2pm with my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens. It's half the price of the Canon equivalent but absolutely fantastic.
Many thanks for your comments,
Best wishes,

Dear Pico,
If you can get a 'Andrzej Dragan' picture straight from the camera then I'm Napolean!
It's a great filter though and I've spent all day making my 'older' friends and relatives look terrible with it. A great way to put 20 years on yourself (see pic).
Best wishes,

Dear Dick,
All profits from our photography go research at Great Ormond Street Children's hospital in London. We take not one cent. We do it for the children who pay no praise or wages nor heed our craft or art.
Dear Beau,
Beau, you are magnificent and I've posted this to show you my efforts. Many, many thanks my friend.

Beau you're a star.
However, I've unzipped and downloaded it into my filters directory of PhotoshopCS but I can't find it upon booting CS.
Oooooh it's frustrating being 99% there!
Any suggestions?

Capitalist or socialist, I still don't know how to create such effects! The RadiantVista homepage is fantastic, many thanks for that.
Perhaps we should try to get them to do a Andrzej Dragan video tutorial.
Photoshop is just an amazing piece of software, much more powerful than I ever thought.
Yours and still learning,

I did a search for Andrzej Dragan's portfolio and he wants 300 Euro to tell you how!

I have just seen this incredible portfolio of Gianluca Nespoli (see
link above) and was just knocked out by the skin tones, textures and
colours that Gianluca has achieved. Can anyone tell me how he has
accomplished this in Photoshop as I would love to emulate these
fantastic pictures.
Gianluca Nespoli's portfolio is well worth a look.
Many thanks and baffled but in awe,

My word loads of great information there. The Tiffen filters look the business but also cost quite a bit accordingly. Still you get what you pay.
Has anyone out there noticed problems with the 10-22mm EFS Canon lens, at 10mm, with the Cokin filters (you can see the edge of the adaptor at 10 mm). I bought specificallly a Cokin adaptor for wide lenses but to no avail.
-
I also forgot to say, is there anywhere I can get good information on creating borders / framing my pictures in PhotoshopCS. I usually just increase the canvas size.
Best wishes

I see some exceptional landscapes on this site, mostly making use of
graduated ND filters and was wondering can anyone recommend where I
can get good graduated ND glass filters (and attachments). I have
used Cokin but the quality resulting isn't always quite there as it
seems odd to pay ᆪ1000 for optics then stick a bit of plastic in
front of it?
I have a Canon 300D, 20D and three good lenses (77mm).
Best wishes and many thanks,
Kevin
PS If I have missed a post regarding this issue please accept my
apologies

I need a good divorce lawyer and it's all Mel's fault.
I had no idea there was a dedicated converter for the lens and that the autofocus also works with it. It's only 120 pounds so I think it is destiny that my camera bag gets one. I might check E-bay but perhaps it's best I chat to the guy in the camera shop so I don't get the wrong one. That usually happens to me and my wife goes nuts!
Many thanks Mel, you're a star.
