I am told that the Voigtlander 35mm F2.5 color Skopar, is the same formula as the screw mount Canon 35mm f2 ... I have both and that seems reasonable ... I also like the Canon Serenar 35mm f2.8 for a sharp but less contrasty look ...

Pocketable ... Hmmm ... for that I use an Olympus XA ... motorcycle jacket pocketable ( I do that a lot ) Leica CL with a 40mm Summicron C ... on a strap inside a jacket ... a Canon P with a VC Skopar 50mm f2.5 or the Canon 35mm f2 ... all great!

LTM ... Leica Thread Mount 39mm ... The lens mount before the M bayonet style ... lots of them out there by many manufacturers, and they can be used with an M when you use an adaptor .

One of my favorite cameras ... I have two ( one is at Mark Hama's getting a CLA) ... not an M3 but I think it may be a better all around carry cam. I have the 35mm f2, 50mm f1.8 and 100mm f3.5 with a VC meter on top (I also have the original meter). The framelines are very usable and it is VERY nice in the hand. I was considering an M2 to go with my M3 and researched the "P" I won both at "THE" auction site and all the len's for a total of under 1K ( around the price of a good M2 body) ... body #1 is so mint it even had the original warrenty card and instructions ... #2 I bought for the 35mm f2 lens it came with, and is a shooter that needed the CLA ... I got into RF Canons when I bought a 35mm f2.8 Serenar for my M3 complete with finder ... I think the vintage Canon stuff is GREAT!

Good answer Raid ... I use zone focus and small apature on a regular basis ... in addition to working well in many situations it is a fun way to shoot. I have 3 rangefinders that are easy to focus in almost any light ... the M3, Canon P and Hexar RF, some don't the CL, Olympus XA and the Russians ... I tend to use the first three for more relaxed style shooting, the other three for the high apature zone stuff, I use Minolta manual focus SLRs for travel photography in daylight situations ... That brings us to the auto focus question ... as I've past 50 I can't really track and focus on the run especially in low light situations or fast changing scenes ... so I too have gone into AF for some situations, I use Nikons ... but find them far from foolproof ... but nice when you need them ...

No complaints using the CV 15mm ... used it all morning at a street festival mounted on a Bessa L, alternating with a Hexar AF 35mm ... I almost always use mine at f16 though ... all afternoon I was out on the bike using a Tokina 17mm on a Minolta XD11 ... I find a lot of use for ultra wides ...

Peter ...
It's funny you mention Leica ... as Leica has a Minolta connection ... In the 70s Leica had the XD11s and XD5s that share a platform with the Leica R4 SLR ... I use XD11s and XD5s ... also the Leica CL M mount rangefinder camera, was made in a Minolta factory (I love mine) ... later came the Minolta CLE in Leica M mount ... and I use a Minolta Rokkor 90mm M Leica mount lens on both my Leica M3 ... CL, and Konica Hexar RF, cameras ... Minolta optics take a backseat to no one in the world of 35mm camera's ...

Will I think I have them all ... the 45 f2 . 50 f2 . 50 f1.7 . 50 f1.4 and 50 f1.2 ... It's been stated by many that the 50 f1.7 is the best and it well may be ... which do I use the most? ... the bottom feeder 45 ... I like the size and view ... very natural and at anything above f5.6 (where I use it 97% of the time) ... it's great ...

OK ... Henry I just tried the J8 on my M3 ... I found no issues as far as fit ...
-
I have a J8 ... have not used it with my M3 ... but the lens is super ... I just shot a series of pics for a project I'm working on and used a Russian Zorki body ... nice LTM lens for low bucks ... no complaints ... I normally use a Canon Serenar 35mm f2.8 on my M3 it's LTM too (with an adapter ring of course).

another sighting ...

I carry a CL all the time ... with just a strap under my jacket ... as of late however I'm finding that the Olympus XA makes a great carry camera ...

BTW Durr ... nice shot!

Jerry L ... You may not like the photo but that's how it's done ... the mike is most likely an old Cab dispatch mike known as a bullet mike it has "the sound" that bluesharp players need ... usually used through an old Fender or Supro amp.
So ya want BLUES ... BIG Jerrys band on Beale st ... Memphis TN ...

Well I AM on a database I guess ... Tuesday morning shooting a photo of the I-40 Memphis-Arkansas bridge on a public road and a service employee of the Mud Island park came out and asked me what I was doing ... and I was then told that they would have to take my car tag number and report it to the Dept. of Homeland Security ... 15 minutes later I was on my cell phone, I called the local director of the agency, we had a nice conversation. I told him that the name that would most likely appear on his desk was me. He told me that it was not going to be put in any type of file (who knows) ... but this BS is not a joke, and not just in NYC. The photo is still in the can, but here is a test shot taken from a distant bluff the photo in question was close up.
-
I was questioned by a government employee Tuesday morning and had my car license tag number taken and reported to "Homeland Security" ... all for taking a photo of a bridge that has been photographed a million times ... I called the local director and we had a nice little chat.
-
Just don't take a picture of anything ... I was reported to "Homeland Security" Tuesday morning by a government employee for taking a photo of a bridge that's most likely had a million photos taken of it ... it's all OK for somebody else ... until it happens to you.

I'm satisfied NOT to go shopping again ... I could care less what's "NEW" ...
-
I am guessing that "that" auction site has DIY kits on it ... I used a local camera shop, with good results, around $60.00 each as I remember ... I had the black one and my chrome user done ... the XD5 was OK ...
-
Yes it pre-dated the Canon A1 by a year ... I have two of them one in black and in near mint condition and one a chrome user with a cameraleather.com leather hide. I also have a near mint XD5 I bought at auction for $25.00 with two good working Rokkor lens! ... make sure the light seals are good ... and enjoy ...
