Great textures, patterns and details here, although I feel the HDR is a little over-cooked. You have a slight tilt and some converging verticals though - an easy fix.

Greetings from South Derbyshire and also Machynlleth! You have a nice straight horizon and a nice lead-in from the bottom right which then goes to the figures on the beach. Some cropping might work well here, together with a bit more contrast. See altered image above.

Some interesting foreground patterns here. Main weaknesses are a sloping horizon and an uninteresting sky. Zooming into some of those mid-ground details might be interesting.

Nicely exposed. I'd like to see some interaction between the B&G. Groom's left arm needs to be doing something too. The large black space top left is a key compositional weakness though. I like the setting, if a bit risky for wedding wear!

Well seen, & exposed. Some highlights burnt out in the sky - should be fixable. Slight left-right slope. Pity the girl's left arm is out of shot. Otherwise an evocative street shot.

  1. Hi Olivia & welcome to the site! Your image is well exposed and framed. Technically you have some darkening in the corners (vignetting) which is easy to fix. I think the image might benefit from a little cropping - about half of the water at the bottom and about half of the sky above the tall tower. The image also looks a little soft but that may be a result of the resolution.

Overall though, there is a lot to interest the viewer here. Keep posting!

Also nice lighting on the domes which reveals their form quite nicely. Cropping off the dark arches at the bottom might also help focus attention on the rest of the building.

You have employed some interesting depth of field effects (in post processing I assume), but I'm not entirely convinced they work as well as true shallow depth of field from a large aperture. The scene is an interesting one and I'd like to see more of it clearly!

I like the unusual angle and some of the interesting patterns. Exposure looks about right, although there's some loss of shadow detail. Have you gone for the D3100 yet?!

  2. Nicely caught scene - it could almost be in Europe! And a pleasing absence of cars too. Great colour and exposure. Perhaps a crop on the right to remove the far pale building with the green door might tighten up the composition.

  3. Hi Maria. This is one of quite an interesting series on this particular building. The main interest for me lies in the windows and decorative features on the first floor and above. A straight on shot with some perspective distortion correction would be another approach you could take.

Symmetry, lighting and exposure are all good here. A pity about the drainpipes though. A more selective view of the doorway and the surrounding stonework would be interesting.

  4. Composition here is generally good, although I'd like a touch more on the base. The colour is great! It looks a fraction underexposed in the shadows, but should be easy to put in a bit more shadow detail in post processing - and you don't want to blow the highlights either. Overall, a very nice capture.
