  1. Thanks everybody- I only need to print 5x7. If different i can mail the photos and have them processed elsewhere. I guess i want the best i can afford- maybe $1000 for the printer and around .75 per pic or less would be great. The better the print the more i will sell. I had real good luck last year with film and the frontier printer at Walgreens. They could run my up to 12 rolls of film in about 90 minutes. There is a lot of black in my evening photos and i prefer it to be crisp. Then as mentioned above the average joe will not see the quality that i like.
  2. I'm thinking of switching from film to digital for my photo sales business. My

requirements are printing up to 200 prints in 2 1/2 hours (5x7).The quality i

need must match iso 200 color film developed at a hour one photo that keeps

their machine clean and change chemicials when needed. I get a volume discount

currently for around .45 per pic. I know digital is going to cost me more(you

dont hear that very often) but i want to start doing minor touch-ups and

reject poor photos before they print which i cant do with film. Im wondering

if i should buy 2 printers or one fast one. I dont know anything about digital

printers so all advice is appreciated thank gleno

  3. I?m a bit confused as to setting lighting for correct exposure. I own a Bowens

esprit 500 and a incident meter. For example lets say I want my picture shot

at f/11 and 1/60 shutter speed. When I meter the scene it read f/11 and 1/8

shutter speed. This would mean I am 3 stops short on light 8-15-30-60 or my

picture will be underexposed by 3 stops without using any flash at all? The

dial on the light output on the flash reads 1/32,1/16,1/8,1/4,1/2,1/1. So my

    question is 3 stops on the meter 0, 1/32 (1), 1/16(2), 1/8(3rd stop) . If I

set my light to 1/8 will that give me the correct exposure? I understand if im

using bounce or a softbox or my distance from flash to subject is far away

that needs to be considered. Is this the correct way to look at this or am I

way off base. I know I can fire the flash from my meter and adjust that way. I

just want to understand exactly how the equipment works.

    Thanks Glenn

  4. At the prompting of Italian-born amateur photographer, John

Botte,Leica has agreed to make a film camera that commemorates the

9/11 attacks in 2001. The Botte-designed camera is made from a solid

block of titanium.Botte, a New York city detective, used his own

Leica in 2001 to record the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy. Although

Botte contacted lung disease following 9/11, he agreed with

HarperCollins to put out a book of his best 9/11 images. The book is

    expected sometime in 2006.

I'm going to look for that book.

  5. The Mall of America is full of visitors taking pictures. Once i showed him my notes and told him exactly what i was doing including the address of the place i was taking the class he said it was OK, but my nerves were on end so i called it a night and went home.He told me i could take picture of store fronts only if i sign in with security before hand.
  6. Ive been taking a B&W class at my local Arts Center and I went to the

Mall of America (30 miles from my home)for my photo assignment. I

shot for an hour with my black M6 shooting street type photos and

recording all my exposures in a little black book and pulling out my

incident meter every once in awhile. I kept everything tight to my

body so no one would really see me.Well security saw me and gave me

the third degree. They thought maybe i was an architect or some type

of designer,a spy. This is one of the main reasons i bought my Leica

so no one would bother me and i could capture natural candids. I

would have been shooting digital if i was a design spy, anyway next

time i'll shoot a picture and walk away while making my notes into a

mini tape recorder. Anyone have a simalar story? I guess maybe i am

    a spy-ha

  7. Aspheric

The term aspheric means モnot sphericalヤ. A spheric lens surface is

regular (like the surface of a ball), with one radius of curvature.

An aspheric lens surface changes shape: It does not have the same

radius of curvature over the whole surface. An aspheric lens allows a

lens to be made flatter, thereby reducing magnification and making it

more attractive. An aspheric lens is also thinner and lighter weight

than spheric lenses, because there is less lens material present.

I know most of you know this, but i wanted to post it anyway for the

ones that didn't because its a simple way to explain it. I came

across this discription shopping for eyeglasses.

  8. I have no experience with photoshop,so this might be a SILLY

question. Do any of you switch heads in formal group shots to

produce the best picture? I know a portrait guy that does it but i

wasnt sure if it can be done well enough so no one knows? Another way

of asking this is, if you take 3 pictures of the same group, same pose

and then clip and paste the best smiles or eyes?
