Thanks Dave for your time! I just soak up everything I learn in this forum and hope I can put it to good use. I just can't wait to get out there and do it! (My first "official" wedding is in April.) Thanks again for the tips. I will certainly look into the Canon 24-85. It has the price I am looking for too! And thanks for the tip on the flash too! That is one I have been debating over.
Thanks again,
Suzanne

Thanks so much guys. I had thought about a Zoom lens. Can I do without the Tamaron if I get a zoon lens? What about the Canon Zoom Normal-Telephoto EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 USM II Autofocus Lens? I can do more research on that one on the site. So that would leave me with the 50mm 1.8, the lens kit (which I know is not that great), and the Canon Zoom listed above? As I mentioned, I am afraid money is an issue here, so gotta keep a tight budget. :)

Hi there! I have read and read and searched and searched information
about lenses. My eyeballs are tired from all this reading. I do
mainly portrait work and have started weddings. I own a 20D. Money IS
an issue with me as I do not have a whole lot of investment $$. After
all my reading, I have narrowed it down to these 3:
Tamaron 28-75 f2.8
50Mmm f1.8
Lens kit 18-55
Also will be including is the 420EX flash, maybe a bracket and
diffuser. I do have a back up camera, not ideal, but all I have at
the moment, a Minolta A2 with 5600 flash unit.
Will these lenses work for my purposes? Is the Tamaron necesarry at
this time, or can I do with the other 2. I want to do good quality
work, so if I must get Tamaron, I will.
Thanks so much for your help. I have learned so much on the forum.
It is by far my favorite on the web. I must become partron member
soon!

Thank you guys so much! That just about wraps it up for me. There was one for sale on ebay and I was just curious. Now I see why no one has really bid on it. I will put my money something more useful. :)
Thanks again,
Suzanne

Hi there. I came across this lens...Canon 28-80mm USM IV 1:3.5-5.6.
That is the exact description I was given, but I can't seem to find
any information on this lens. I have done searches on this forum and
Yahoo. Do you think the description is incorrect? I can tell from the
picture of this lens that it says, "Ultrasonic" on the lens itself.
Thanks so much for your time!

Thanks so much Gary! I know the A2 is much slower. But I thought for a backup, it should be okay! I could not get your links to work. I would LOVE to see them. Do you mind trying again or tell me if I am doing something wrong. I copy and paste the link in my browser and its says We couldn't find any sites containing <http://www.friedmanarchives.com/Wedding_Sampler/pages/Silhouette.htm>. Consider: friedman archives wedding sampler pages silhouette htm
Which that one did not work either. Let me know b/c I would love to see them. Thanks for your reply!

Hi Jim! I love those Crumpler Bags in the previous post. They do not look like your average bag, wish I had seen those before I got mine!
I bought a "start up" bag from Best Buy. It's a Canon bag and came with a UV filter and extra battery. I think it is 79.99. Its a nice size bag, so I think it would hold everything you need. If you have a Best Buy, I think its worth looking into. I have a 20D and the filter and extra battery fit perfectly. (I currently use the filter on the lens kit offered with the 20D)
Good luck!

Hi there! I am taking some wedding pictures in the upcoming months
and I know they say you should have a backup of everything. I have
the A2, 5600 flash, tripod, cable release, etc. My primary camera is
a Canon 20D. Just wondering if the A2, in your opinion, would suffice
as a backup? I have taken some great shots from the A2, so I feel it
would. But wonder if anyone has had experience in this situation.
Not sure if I should post this in the wedding forum, but wanted to
ask the Minolta group! :)
Thanks!

Sorry, wrong picture! :) I did not save the finished image. I bumped up the contrast a little bit, but not too much. I think it will cause the picture to look "un-natural" for lack of a better word. What I did: Used dropper in Curves in PS to set the white and black points. I then freehanded the curves to my liking.

Hi there Chris. I am by no means a "seasoned pro" but I like the comments from the others about playing around with the flash, setting it to the side, etc. If I understand correctly, you are practicing for wedding photoraphy? From what I have read, using a bounce or diffuser on your flash and placing it on a bracket will help with using flash indoor. Direct flash is way too too much and will wash out everything in front of it. But bouncing the flash will help the light fall on the subject in a softer way.
I too took a stab at your picture. Just my 2 cents worth!

You guys are great. It amazes me how perfect strangers can be just as concerned as I am. I really do appreciate all the reaponses. I was hesitant about stating the company name. This just may be an isolated case with me, so I don't know if I would totally judge them on my experience. But the company is Adorama, www.adorama.com.
Again, I really do appreciate all the responses. I guess I have a phone call to make tomorrow. I already requested it back once, so hopefully it will actually happen this time. Thanks again!

Thanks Al,
That was my gut feeling, but since I am not familiar with the D30...I just was not sure. I will be sure to keep you posted so others can be informed.

I hope I am sending this to the right spot! Also, please forgive my
dumb question, if it is one. I am kind of "mixed up" a sticky
situation with a company to whom I sent some equipment to well over a
month ago. To make a long story short, I sent them a very lightly
used Minolta Dimage A2, a remote cable, and a 5600HS flash for
inspection for a quote on buying the equipment from me. THey lost all
my equipment for 1 full month and they still have it. They quoted me
so low on my Minolta stuff, I had to request it back.
They told me they had shipped it and that I would get it Thursday,
they called me today to say they were mistaken. They have not shipped
it yet, it was in another department. Okay, to get to the point...He
offered to trade my A2 for a Canon D30 body, plus 100.00. Now my A2
is not a true SLR, but it works well and has 8MP. The Canon D30 only
has 3. I currently have a Canon 20D, so they could interchange
accessories. I am wondering if they are trying to scam me or
something. Its been almost 2 months and I still do not have my stuff
back. They said originally it would take only 3 business days to give
me a quote.
Sorry for such a long message. So should I stay with the Minolta or
is the Canon D30 offer a good deal? I would use them for backups of
my 20D for weddings.
Thanks so much for your time!

Hi all. Man, this forum is much more forgiving than others I have encountered! I mean this is a good way. Other forums will tell you are crazy for jumping in. But you guys seem to be a little more encouraging. I am also "jumping in" to the wedding photography field. I have taken pictures at weddings, but not as the "offical" photographer. I have booked a total of 4 weddings for this upcoming summer. I am very nervous, as the first one is April is my first offical one. I too am on the lookout for a good "all around" lens for these weddings. I am looking at a 50mm and the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 Di. I have a Canon 20D with lens kit the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens. Armed with these 3 lenses, do you feel I have it covered? Thanks in advance for your opinion and your time!
One more question to add, I know I need to have a backup of everything. I have a Minolta A2 with a 5600HS flash. Will this function okay as a "backup" system?
