1.
I went to the camera shop to test drive the 40D and the 50D. I brought my compact flash cards so I could snap some photos, and then bring them home. I learned that my computer likes the doesn't like the .cr2 files ;)
I use CS, and the RAW Plugin for .cr2 files requires CS4, so I'm going to have to upgrade that either way. ARRGH.
I forgot that the Digital Darkroom needs to be current as well. It just isn't about going to get a new camera.

  2.
Ok, Ill stear clear of the no so reputable dealers, thanks for the input. I was heavily leaning that was anyway based on other posts here.
The bigger question was will I be missing out, by not getting the 50d over the 40, and it appears not.
The one thing I have noticed with my digital rebel, which has me leaning towards 50d, is that some of my shots are actually crops out of the full shot, and having an extra 5mp would be nice.

  3.
I currently have a 6 year old digital rebel, and WANT to upgrade to a newer body. I'm strictly a hobbyist, but woud like to step into basic studio work, still as a hobby.
I've settled on the 40d because it will for sure meet my needs, and the extra money saved by not getting the 50d will help buy another lens later on.
With that being said, am I making a huge error in not getting the 50d? I can afford either, just trying to be practical and not simply by the 50d because its newer.
Also, I've priced the 40d on B&H, and read in the forums to stay away from BroadwayPhoto, but saving another $200 is tempting. When paying with a CC, I can just refute the charge if I get hosed? Right?
Any thoughts?

  4.
Certainly there is no comparison between a 4 year degree, and a certificate from NYIP, but I've found myself in a dilema that I'd appreciate advice on.
I've enjoyed photograpy off and on over the past 6 years as a hobby, learning a little here and there, but never really getting any indepth knowledge. I want to learn a lot more about "how" to manually take great photographs and understand more of what I'm doing so I can get away from full auto and have fun.
I have the resources to attend an online school to get a degree in photography, but I'm not sure if that is the right path. Quite frankly, I don't care about the history of the camera, and that sort of 'non applicable' type of knowledge.
Because of that, and my attitude of wanting it now, I've begun to look at some 4-5 week online classes that will teach me what I think I'm looking for. However, I'd hate to fall short of my expectations, and realize all along that I should have just gone to an online school. I've been looking at the Art Institue of Pittsburg, and curious what other schools have a good online program.
Any help would be appreciated.

  5. Damn, Im a bonehead.. I was changing modes during the shoot, from full auto to Av or Tv and I have Raw as my setting for everything but Auto, and sure enough when "Browsing" in Photoshop CS, I was looking at the pics, and they are not in a sequential order, they are in order by filename, and the raw images are first, then the jpgs. So what was happening was I was looking at the JPG's and noticed some shots missing, sure enought when I scroll up there they are. I hate being stupid sometimes..
  6. I have a digital rebel and have taken quite a bit of shots with it.

But it seems to have an issue. The other day I was taking pictures

and once I got back to the computer a couple of the shots were not

there. Then again today I took some more pics, went to the computer

and again a couple of shots that I know I took were not on the card.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

  7. We were typing at the same time... As far as indoor more like indoor candids, at parties and such. For this lens, I need to get one that qualifies for the canon rebate, since I have the Drebel and the 75-300 one more qualified lense gets me more rebate. So I have to stick to Canon. I also have the 420EX flash.
  8. Thanks for all of the input, this forum is really neat for that one reason. I want to change gears, but rather than posting another question, here goes.

I have the 18-55 kit lense

    50mm 1.8 lense

    75-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM

I use the 50mm for portraits, I use the 75-300 for outdoor sports. I think I would like a good indoor zoom. I really would like to get away with the $500 price range, so I was thinking of the Canon - 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM EF Lens or the Canon - 28-200 f/3.5 - 5.6 USM EF Lens . The 28-200 is $100 cheaper, but it doesn't have IS. I like the IS on my 75-300 so I think it woud be better to cut down the range to get the IS. 28-135 for indoor zoom "should be adequate" shouldn't it.. Thoughs..

  9. Paul,

I am (after reading your first post) leaning towards getting another lense and maximizing the rebate. Because the trade diffrence is actually $830 once you factor in the fact that right now with the rebel I have the $230 rebate coming to me. If I go to the D20 I lose that as well.. So im looking for another lense to make the rebates triple.

  10. A reason I was thinking was because from what I understand the Drebel doesn't have automatic Flash Exposure Control, not that I know what that does yet, but I hope to soon. I primarially want to get into portraits indoors, and landscaps, sports as well, but mainly for fun..My thoughs are if I can get into the D20 now for $600 it will be easier than trying to get into it in a couple of years for the full $1500. As far as lenses, I only have the 50mm 1.8 and the 75-300 IS USM. 4.5. This is just what I was able to purchase with the rebel at the time.
  11. I purchased the Digital Rebel 28 days ago, the camera store says I

can exchange it for the D20. It is going to cost me an additional

$600. I am very new to photography, but really like it. I have read

some reviews of the 20D and I admit I like it, but not sure why. I

have two thoughts, since I am so new, save the money, use the rebel

until I "need" to go to the 20D. And on the other hand, I like

having the "latest and greatest that I can afford" Am I going to

outgrow the Digital Rebal real soon? or and I just being silly..

    Thoughs..
