if you think i was looking good then you should see me now! a hot single sixty year old
-
i have photos from the vietnam war in my porfolio, and i saw a photo posted by Jim Adams that must have been from the nineteen twenties. what we photo today will be a documentry of life as it was in time to come.
-
Darius i really like the photo as it is. if i rated photos i would give it at least a 6/6. i,am one of those who comment (nice shot)useless at it might seem,i,am trying to be incourageing. i can find nothing about the photo i dislike, and i would like to see more,so i belive incouragement is important. sincerly Joe B.

thank you all for commenting. it was a very interesting response.
no winers no loosers ; just very interesting. keep takeing photos, that,s what your good at.

a one word answer is all that is reqired; YES you are unhappy with the system;
NO you are not unhappy with the system.
-
i have seen many many differant people complain about the rateing system in the forum over the past year or so that i have been comeing here, i bet if poled the majority are very displeased with the rateing system, to belive otherwise is to belive the sytem is just great and the 3/3 people and the cheaters do not exist.
-
you will notice that Brian and company, never post a rebutal comment on this topic. that tells me that they are happy with the rateing system, because it works for them, and they don,t give a dam about what others think of the rateing system or cheaters. the site is rakeing in the bucks, and so all is well.
we can comment and complain until my dog lays an egg, nothing will be done.

If you go to rocky mountan natioal park; you have to go to Never Summer Ranch, i belive it,s within the boundries of the park
-
it is very hard to get a fair assesment of your work on this web site thru the rateing system. try posting for critique only. i think you will be happier.
-
about a year ago i post the same question; and Brians response was ; PN is not here as a learning toll,it is here to gather the best photographes, or words to that effect.
-
i don,t understand the importance of the question. why would anyone care if it was manipulated or not,you eather like the photo or you don,t. that is for me i suppose. it seems trivial. i asume all photos on PN are manipulated in one way or another.

i looked hard at the photo and my feelings is that at least when compared to a lot of others it deserved a 5 for astedics and a 4 for origianality, only because we see many sunsets. i loved the color of the sky and its dynamics. but i,am a farmer and i like farm photos, and a pretty sky just does it for me. there being so many photographers here from so many walks of life, that this photo would do nothing for them. i look at the TRP and some of the photos of the week and they do nothing for me. i really belive it,s that beauty in the eye of the beholder thing, mixed with the power to rate. think about it how many photos can you rate with a fast computer in a second, i did fifteen on a very fast goverment computer in a second about a year ago, just to see how those 3/3s got there so fast.

i have to agree with christopher and tim on all they wrote, also flower photos don,t sell or don,t sell well, unless they are extraordinary, also photos of people don,t sell well, if selling is on your mind, i know i,ve done market reserch on the subject.
a photo thats really eye catching will get you what you want.

i would like my tee to say 3/3 guy you suck; but my redneck friends would think i,am talken about Dale Earnhart; and that would become a problem in my neck of the woods

the best thing is not to waste your time rateing. it has no real value. only a good comment weather positive or negitive has any true value, as far as helping the photographer know that his work is good or if if needs improvement. even a pat on the back; like wow great shot; does more than a 7/7 rateing,it,s more personal and shows that you actually took the time to look at the photo in detail.
-
Lisa you are absolutly right. you are very brave to comment on this matter. the members and the administration of this site, will shoot you down, for not takeing your lumps(3/3)i doudt that anything will be done to fix the problem, it has plagued this site for as long as i have been here. but for me i,am always glad to see new blood speak out againest the rateing syatem.it is lost to so many just how discourageing the system is to the new photographer.
take my advise; forget about this site, join a local photo workshop.
you,ll learn more about what your doing right and what to do to improve.

it IS most deffinitly a juvinile cow bird. i,ve been looking at these birds for almost sixty years.

when another photographer tells me simply good job or well done, that is enough to comfirm to me that the photo really is well done.
quiet offten i thought i had done a good job,and then thru comments i find were i could have done better. my point; to me any comment is better than no comment, and a really well done critique is worth it,s weight in gold.
-
this is a cow bird;i live in upstate NY. we see them often. i have a photo of one in my porfolio
-
i see your point Dave; wondering why it took an hour when normally it takes a micro second. he must have to use the can some time. it,s not a complant, it,s an observation. your OK with the 3/3 just wondering why it took so long. am i correct?

Thank you all for your helpfull responses. Nature photographers are really nice people, not at all like abstact people. (pardon the pun)

Hey Gunga; i really like your post, i may use some of them in every day life, like at work, or when haveing a deep conversation with my girl friend,or even better when correcting papers from my students.
