Thanks Andy, Yet another piece of great advice to toss into the mix. I was not aware of the sensor size difference which is an important factor to me.

Howard, Its worth a comparison for me to compare the level of low light improvement of the 12 however the specs on the Sony NEX5N seem to take the win. Thank you.

I'm planning to purchase a point & shoot with the highest quality resolution along with optical zoom. I will be replacing a Canon G10 which was damaged and am looking to upgrade. Most other features and brand names are not priorities.

Everything has been explained very well except I will add that I suggest Delkin Devices CF Combat Flash cards. Under every situation and many intense photo-shoots these cards have never let me down.

Thank you Frank, Harry & Carlos. Your imput was very helpful.

Monitor question: Do the new high resolution TV/monitors 1080p x 1920 work as well as the standard computer monitors?

I have shot many years of journalistic photography for the highest ranking officials in the country and your method of shooting without a flash will change for certain. If you can't afford the 580EXII then pick up a used 580 and a bounce card or one of the many light modifiers that are available. Forget the 430EXII... you'll be glad later that you did.
Best of luck with your new career.

Yes there is a big difference. In digital photography make sure to always convert in photoshop or with one of the many great filters available. IMO: In-camera B&W is ment for beginner photographers with no knowledge of post processing techniques.

This is a 1:1 lighting ratio which means F 1/16 is your answer.

I've got Smugmug and it works well for your request. They have very good e-mail tec service to answer any questions you may have. You can check out premo.smugmug.com

Without a second shooter you need to be at the front of the church for the bride and her father. Plenty of other options available when a 2nd shooter is involved.

Having someone constantly peering over my shoulder, re-posing and slowing up my photography process would be more than annoying it would be unacceptable.

So many 'supposed photographers' omit costs or it is their part time hobby.
The method you are using will price you right out of the business. Check the market and compare your skill level to those in the same range and build a ball park system from there.

To be understood that other photographers most likely will disrupt your timing and style of shooting and limit your creative edge as well. Because there are so many variables that you may be up against I would consider canceling if possible.

I'm going to agree with M.P. - word for word.

Regarding your question on lighting:
1. I generally always use plain white when using reflectors.
2. Careful placement of your subjects of coarse.

1. What shutter speed are you using?
2. Have you taken light readings from each strobe separately?

I've been a wedding and event photographer for many years and I have found the fast zooms to be an absolute must. Those who say you can use a prime lens and use your body as a zoom will have difficulty getting the important shots at crowded fast moving events. Don't get me wrong the 85 1.2 * 35 1.4 are fantastic to have in your bag too.
Ed Richter

I process 95% of my Wedding images in color and select about 5% (or less) for conversion to B&W. I always inform the bride and groom that any color image can easily be converted to B&W at their choosing but generally they are pleased with my choices. I recently shot a Wedding in which the B&G wanted all images in color & all images in B&W, which of coarse is no problem what-so-ever.

Even if you had a specific Wedding contract I wouldn't pursue it. I've had similar incidents myself and its not worth the stress. As mentioned, it would be so simple just to leave a kind remark about working with them and how nice they looked in your photographs. End of story

This certainly sounds as if she needs to recalibrate her monitor and the best choice has been mentioned in the fact if she has several enlargements made the mystery will have been solved.

This is a point I always discuss with the bride and groom prior to shooting their wedding. I have never experienced a problem at weddings by being polite and informing the guests that once I take the photos, that the bride has requested me to take, then family and friends are free to take their own pics. Generally the bride sets the tone and on occasion has even asked me to help her set the pace with family members.

-

I want the bride and groom to have the best Wedding photos possible but in this situation I would suggest a few helpful tips to the bride and groom. Perhaps I could offer them bare bones Wedding coverage in which my photos would be far superior to that of a family member.
The likelihood of the bride receiving any acceptable pictures taken by friends and family members is slim to none and every pro knows that. Being helpful and friendly goes a long way by word of mouth for future opportunities.

There are so many untalented 'photographers' out there that I would like to do my part to prove there are still professionals available that truly care about Wedding and Event photography and are good at their profession.

To be considerate and helpful are payoff's in and of itself. Again, the word of mouth advertising will be a bonus in the end.
Both systems have the ability to use radio triggers. I have worked with the travelites/bowens and alien bee's and my decision was travelites... Never once had a problem in studio or on location with the travel-lites under heavy useage. Also dumped a 750 and stand unto a cement floor... picked it up and continued the shoot... I was amazed.
