everyone has their own reasons...
-
Thanks Bob.

Bob, quick question: in your tests, with noise reduction turned on, did resolution suffer or
hold up? I know it handles chroma noise mostly, but I'm still wondering how it affects detail
and resolution.

How bout if you wanna use auto thrystor mode for some situations and e-ttl(II) for others?
all in one flash...

"Modern Japanese photography descends primarily from four photographers - Araki,
Moriyama, Tomatsu, and Eikoh Hosoe"
Huh?? What do you mean by "modern" Japanese photography anyway? A lot of what I'm
seeing here these days is coming from influences outside of Klein and the four you
mentioned.

like that bruno :P

"well i lost a roll of film at knife point. gone for good. but when someone else insisted i
delete pix on my card, i just pulled 'em back with recovery software. film is risky - i've lost
loads of shots for a myriad of reasons."
hehe - true stories from the crypt :D
-
"On the other hand, I'd lost almost everything that really mattered, maybe a thousand family
snaps, when a drive failed on a PC...
Digital sucks if longevity is your concern."
Sorry to hear that man. Gotta be smart about how you archive - there are risks no matter
what medium you use :P

"Why bother even writing that"
or better yet, why bother even reading popphoto.
-
and you had to start a thread to...verify that?
Talking about rumors before a product is supposedly supposed to come out is one thing.
You just moved the game to another level...congrats.

Brad, Canon needs to hire you for their next ad campaign :P

"Antonin Kratchovil's point with these photographs may be to express his experience of
torture -- he dedicates them to his father who was tortured. If this is the case these
images are as true ot Abu Grahib as they are to Stalinist Russia , Nazi occupied Europe,
Iranian prisons, or any situation where torture is allowed as a way of controlling someone,
the Orwellian nightmare of torture used purely for the sake of torture, an exercise of
power for power's sake. These images may as relevant and true in psychological terms to a
molested child or a kidnap victim as they are to a POW or political prisoner."
that train of implications is a flight of fancy if the photos don't get that experience across
- no matter how true the feeling is for him personally.

doesn't do it for me...too literal in its blur, shadow and light, ambiguity, yada yada yada...
would be great on a penguin book cover tho.

afternoon tumbles are salacious...love em

"The Canon 1dsmk11 files have lousy colour simple as that. As in lousy skin tones
compared to the DMR or even Nikon, as in any red or pink in particular require a LOT of
muckin around to get to look even vaguely natural. other colours are ok - red hues -
blaaaaaahh phtewey. Canon files are also over smoothed in camera - I actually prefer teh
noise from teh DMR and Nikon to the over processed file you get from Canon...I just prefer
a full frame sensor to teh cropped stuff that leica or Nikon deliver which is why I am
reluctantly putting up with Canon's view of what red should look like"
Everything needs workarounds (Nikon, Leica, or Canon) and there are workarounds for
everything. If throwin money at it don't work, then you'd better cope with it. "Simple as
that."

Or check William Klein's New York. The opening shot of that book as well as a few others in
it are done with a long tele.
-
Eric, it's not like you easily classify that work under any genre. But why not?
-
SP - how bout DiCorcia's Heads? I don't know if it's 135 or not but it's on the long end.
-
"Can you point us to a body of work that supports this?"
Why? It either works for ya or it doesn't.
-
Raoul,
You're pics are much more interesting than any list of rules could be, joke or not :P
-
Sorry guys - can't believe this thread is still going :P
Jeff, the battery life really depends. Someone posted that it was for 235 shots and I remember reading the same somewhere. I haven't tested it or anything but I've used it for a day of full on shooting without any probs. If you turn of the LCD in back it'll last longer. There is a function to do this is you are using the external VF.
It's quite small. Not gr-1 small but it's still a small pocketable cam - way smaller than the Hexar AF. The grip/feel of it is great too. RAW does take a while, but I, as well as a friend of mine who uses it quite a bit, find the jpegs to be fine. You can turn off the noise reduction so there's no smearing. I'll check back if there are any more q's.
-
Thanks guys. D White - at high ISO's, you can turn off the noise reduction. BTW, the A4
prints came out fine. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to print beyond this either.

Viewfinder brightness 10D, 40D and 5D ?
in Canon EOS Mount
Posted
The 5d is bigger than the 40d. Having said that, the 40d is quite bright and larger than the
20d/30d - enough to really notice the difference. Why not go to a cam shop and look
through them yourself?
