Nikon is a very nice company and I want to see what's their next step after D70. Must be a cool product.
-
Actually it replaces the gap between D2x and D100.
-
I am just wondering if there is a D200 in the future. D2H is now
replace the gap between D100 and D70 in it's price range. Also, D2H
sound like D2Hundred. I guess the real D200 is the one D2H.
-
I understand that. All I want to do is just give people an option and let them know it is cheaper to fix D70 in Hong Kong. I know many people travel to Hong Kong for either sightseeing or business. If you have chance to be there, it will worth you a visit. The U.S. warranty card will probably work in Hong Kong too. Don't worry about the quality, they are all Nikon trained and perform as well as other factorys.
-
True, Nikon HK is not U.S. standard. It's Japanese standard because all parts are from Japan. If you would like to pay $800 for a sensor filter, that's your choice.

Why got 17-40mm? Because it's a L and it is one of the high end lens which you don't really need to upgrade to 16-35mm F2.8 in the future. Why 50mm F1.8? It is cheap and it will fit inside your bugget. I am sure you want to upgrade this one to 50mm F1.4 in the future and it won't depreciate much over all.
-
Get a 17-40mm F4 ($650) + 50mm F1.8 ($80) + filters
-
Would you consider the 17-40 F4 which is a really good landscape lens? I would recommand 17-40mm F4 + 70-200mm F4 and tripod. You don't really need a 2.8 for landscape and I am sure even a 2.8 won't be enough inside caves. These two are sharp and light enough for your purpose of shooting. No boday want to carry two " big white " for hiking.

I am wondering that I didn't use much for my camera but the number
is pretty high which show on my CF. I wonder my camera was not
started from 0 when I first received it from B&H. Does this happen
often?
Thanks!

If you travel to China this year, I think you should go to Si Chuan province too. I know this province has a lot of population but it worth you a visit. Just remember, don't travel during October which is most busy season for Chinese turists.
check out those shots: http://www4.pbase.com/kenso168/sichuan
Good luck!

I will recommend you save the money for a better lens. A better lens improves your speed, accuracy, contrast. D70 is good enough for most people and it is a much lighter/smaller camera which doesn't attract much attention. Good for city shooting and hiking. D2H is definely good for sport shooting.

1st, D2H means 2 hundred. D70 means 70. 200>70 thus, you paid more for the difference.
2nd, D2H is twice the weight compare with D70, Nikon charge $600 per pound for their SLR camera. You paid for the difference.
3rd, you pay the difference for the weather seal pro body, bigger and brighter viewfinder, faster buffer, bigger LCD......

You paid $200 for a new sensor, but you only need to replace the sensor filter. Then, just take the new filter and put on the old sensor unless you demage your sensor but not filter. Nikon Hong Kong will charge $50-60 for your labor fee to do the thing show on the web site. Nikon U.S. may even charge more for labor fee.
-
Most people who have trouble with their sensor is due to the scratch of their sensor filter. However, we can't find just the filter to replace it and we need to get a new sensor instead. Here is a site show how to replace the sensro by youself. It looks pretty easy and I am sure you won't have much trouble of doing that. Then, it is time for you to sell the sensor on ebay. I know there must be some D70 which has problem with the sensor but not filter.

I visited Nikon factory in Hong Kong 2 months ago. I asked them how
much does it cost to replace a gray market D70's sensor. They told
me the sensor cost about $200 U.S. dollar and the labor will be $60-
70 U.S. dollar. If you have Nikon warranty, they may fix it for free
even.
I know some people who demage their sensor filter and it cost about
$700-800 to replace it in the United States. They may want to
contact Nikon Hong Kong.
-
I don't know much about Canon U.S.A. I did visit Nikon Hong Kong last winter. The people there are so nice and they do free job for cleaning viewfinder and sensor if under warranty. The guy ask if he can pick it up his camera by next day and the representive told him please come back in 15 minutes.
My housemate demage his D70 sensor filter during cleaning. He use a gray market product and it doesn't cover by warranty. Nikon Hong Kong will provide a new sensor by $200 not include labor, but I heart that it is very expensive here in the United States to replace a sensor.

The problem is those dusts and liquid came into another side of the glass which I can't reach. ~_~
-
I was using compressed gas to clean my 20D viewfinder, but the
liquid came out from the gas bottle. I can see a lot of dust and
dirty things inside my viewfinder now no matter how I try to clean.
Do you think I should send it back to Canon factory to get it clean?
Will they charge additional fees even it is still under factory
warranty?
Thanks!

I am sure it will fit.

If you want to know more about there, see the movie Jet Lee acted called "Hero".

I think it's not allow for hiking and camping there. It is a few place in the world wild pandas inhabit. However, the valley trial is just so long and may take you a couple of days to walk through. Also, just about a few hours ride, there are another National park called Huang Long is located. Jiu Zhai Gou and Huang Long are both named by United Nation "World Natural Heritages ". It is one of the few highland remains of the glazial ages in the world too. Discovered 30 years ago.
The best season to vistit there is early November. You can see so much colors of the nature reflecting on the crystal clear blue water. Please keep in mind that October is a really busy travel season for Chinese people. Better not to visit during that busy time.
It is connected to Tibet. If you go there, you may want to go Tibet too.

Gray market means the products that dealers directly import the original country, didn't go through Canon or Nikon. It doesn't make any difference between the glay market product and non-glay market product.
Glay market equipments are usually cheapter, but doesn't cover by factory warranty. However, big dealer like B&H will provide the warranty for their gray market equipment. If you need a service, you ship it back to B&H instead of Canon U.S. or Nikon U.S.
If you choose gray market product, you will need to expect the resale value will be a little cheapter.

I just found some awesome nature shots from PBASE. Jiu Zhai Gou is a
mystique Valley people discoverd about 70 years ago where 4,000
metres above the sea level. It's panda's habitat too.
