  1. I sent my 20D to Canon factory in Califonia for viewfinder cleaning.

A month just passed. The camera is now still in the factory and they

told me they need to replace the focus screen and they are waiting

for the part to be arrived from Japan. I am wondering why do Canon

need to replace the focus screen? Does the dust demages the focus

screen physically? I can't see any point that they hold my camera

for such a long period and they are not sure when will the part be

arrived and when will my camera to be shipped. They may want to keep

it as long as possible till 30D comes out or my one year warranty

    expires.

  2. Hi,

I plan to visit gold beach for photography in middle of March.

Does anyone know about this beach? Any viewpoint that I should not

miss? Also, when will be the best time for firing?

    Thank you

  3. If Canon make a clear sign that EF-s is going to stay for a long period of time, then they should also announce some EF lens. They havn't announced any EF for a while. Does it mean that they are going to discontinue EF?
  4. "Maybe this is the signal that EF lens development is dead."

I can't find any reason that Canon will give up their EF lens. EF-s is a short lived lens system which only apply to 1.6x factor. The technology is pushing the development of sensor. Full frame sensors will be cheap to develop in the coming future. Canon know how, but Nikon and Olympus don't know. That's why Canon try to make their last gold on EF-s before Nikon and Olympus or Minolta make their own full frame sensors. Olympus is now corporate with Panasonic and develop their new DSLRs. A good glass company(Olympus) + a good eletronic company (Panasonic) may = another Canon.

  5. It's good to get a cheap EF-s and play around but definetly not for the price which over $400. Why not a 70-200mm F4 L then? Can you imagine the situateion that you have many EF-s Lens and you may want to upgrade to 1D mark 2 next year. You are now facing the trouble of EF-s because it won't fit for 1D serious.

You have to know once you go for EF-s means you won't be able to upgrade your camera easily. It's similar to a Nikon lens system. Your new $2000 1D mark2 body sometime in the future won't fit EF-s and Nikon lens.

  6. There are many X-factors affect the life time of EF-s. 1st, How many of you will buy a EF-s lens if 1D Mark 2 drops to $1,600 in a year? It's really possible as 1D's life-cycle.

2nd, if Nikon, Olympus, Minolta, Pentax, Fujifilm... come out their first 1.3x factor DSLR in $1600 level next year or next next year. Do you think Canon's 1.6X factor DSLR can still sell like a hot cake?

  7. I don't see there are any point people will switch from their 100mm

F2.8 to a EF-s macro. Also, even new DSLR buyers won't be interest

in Ef-s much I guess. We all know how fast that Canon announce their

new Digital SLRs. It's no wonder that a 25D or 30D will be announced

sometime this year. No wonder that EF-s won't work in their 40D 45D

or 50D in just a few years. The only situation that people will be

interested in this lens is that it comes like a kit lens which costs

    within $100-200 like 18-55.

Let's enjoy our 100mm F2.8 Macro and expecting Canon to announce

    more high end EF lens. A 15-55mm F2.8 L, new USM 50mm F1.4, 85mm

F1.4 sounds way more attractive to me.

  8. I am so disappointed that Nikon D2Hs isn't a 8MP camera. Otherwise, it will be a hugh competitor to 20D and 1DMark2. As more competition involved, us, the consumer will be better off. Nikon is a good company for film and glass, but they rely on Sony's digital technology too much. Nikon can't do anything if Sony doesn't develop a new good sensor for them. If Nikon combines their digital department with Panasonic. It will be another story.
  9. I also faced the same situation. The gap between 40 to 70 can be covered by a 50mm f1.4 or f1.8

If you have extra money to spend, you can get a 24-70mm F2.8 L to cover or go with sigma or tarmon.

If you don't have much money, buy a pair of good running shoes and it helps you to cover the gap dramatically.
