I am currently looking at buying a high end Ball Head. My options are Arca Swiss B-1, kirk
BH1, or the Really right stuff bh-55.
The real debate is between the arca swiss and the kirk, does anyone have a direct
comparison of these two? The Kirk seems to be a better deal price wise, but I plan to use
this head for the next 100 years so I would rather get the better one. What about the
eliptical design of the arca swiss?

I am wanting to get owl nest photos this spring. I am looking to find a spotted, Great H,
or Screech nest and set up a blind. Feel good about actually setting up the blind, but I
need some advice in finding the nests. I have been hiking in likely habitat around dusk,
but not hearing much in the way of owls. Am I too early in the season to really be hearing
them?
Give me some advice in finding nests.

I am heading to the backcountry of Denali NP this comming summer. I am realizing that
now that I shoot digital I cannot just carry a hudge bag full of batteries. I will be away
from an outlet for as much as two weeks while shoot extensivly (and uploading on a lap or
some other device). Has anyone every used one of these roll up solar panals that I have
heard about?
I would love to find out any info that people have about other strategies of being away
from AC for long periods of time.

I am currently planning a trip to AK for this comming summer, I will be there from July 19-
about Aug 11.
We are planning on going to Denali for about 8 days of the trip (I have that area down as I
used to work there). My question is where else should we go that is going to be in
season? I had looked at Khatmi but I think we may be too late for running salmon/bears.
We would like to get some seriouse Bear and Eagle time in, but it seems we are right
between spring and fall seasons. We thinking heading down to the Kenai.
Any ideas would be great.
Also for you wildlife shooters... I am going to replace my old Nikon 300 f4 before the trip
(doesn't work with extenders on my digital) I am trying to decide between a new 300 f4 S
with the 1.4x and 2x or maybe the slower 80-400 VR lens with extenders. Any
comments?

I should clarify that I actually have a fair amount of experience working with many of these
species in the Past (As I worked at a raptor rehab center for about 3 years and have
worked specificly with most of these species in hackking them out!). I am fully aware of
both the leagle and ethical implications as well. The main information I was looking for
was in general what ways have proven most effective for locating/homing in on after
initaial contact ( I was hoping to gain any more info that I could past my current sources)
It has become obvious that this was not the approprate forum to lean more, because it is
too public and way to heated. I will continue working with my rehab assocates as well as
raptor experts that I already have contact with.
Thanks!
