  1. I don't know if this is what you intended, but let's go... This image really fascinates me. Technically, I think it's quite a mediocre shot (sorry), but that just doesn't matter. The subjects throughout the scene are compelling and tell a bit of a story. I like it that the quality of the 'print' is rough - movement in the foreground, blown-out sun, grain - it all adds meaning to a scene which I think is pretty ugly, as the industrial plant dominates the image for me. Your title adds a kind of irony to this bleak scene.

Lesa, Thanks so much for your kind words on my silver fern image. It brought me to your lovely, diverse portfolio. But amongst them all, this one really stands out. Wonderful light and wonderful subdued tones add to this picturesque scene.

This image is perfect - like a fairy tale or movie or painting, it's almost too perfect to be real. In fact, most of your portfolio is that good. Fantastic work that I hope you are exhibiting and/or publishing somewhere.

Asla, As with the critiques above, this image stood out to me straight away. And, like the others, I think the juxtaposition of nature against industry is really striking. I look at this and think, "How much snow will fall here in 30 years, when the greenhouse gas emissions from the factor have changed the global climate further?"

So your subject is wonderful. Your composition is equally good. The textures that draw the eye from foreground to background are beautiful and perfectly placed. And your print is perfect.

Well, I think it's great. You're much more creative than me - just taking photos and working on them in a "straight" manner. I envy your creative skills and talent.

I recently gave my 7 year old step-daughter a print of a photo that I don't much like any more and told her she could do what she wanted to it. So she painted it with acrylics and it looks 200% better than the original image. I've scanned in her wonderful artwork and I'm going to put it on my website! (http://www.nathanross.co.nz)

This is quite fascinating. I always like it when people can produce montages using photographs and other media combined. Can you tell me a bit about this image? How was it made?
