Thanks guys for all your advise/comments. I definitely would go for the 420EX and save me some $. AS for the built-in flash that Giampiero mentioned, I have not thought about it/used it yet. But just for thoughts, I'm just wondering if the built-in flash would be too harsh since it is shooting directly without the capability to bounce off walls/ceilings and you can't add difusers to it. As I am still new to this, any thoughts from all would be apprecaited.

Hi all, I have a question regarding flash for my new 20D. i have
read reviews on the 580EX is an excellent flash to go with the 20D
but i was thinking more of the 420EX. I am not really into flash
photography but need one just for those rare occassion. I wanted to
know what are the limitations of the 420EX as compared to the 580EX
on a 20D.Thanks

Thanks Jim for your advice. In fact, I just pop by the local camera store about 2 hrs ago( local time in Malaysia) n tested out the 300D as well as the new 20D. What can I say, the 20D felt so nice in my hand and the sound of the shutter clicking away at 5fps is music to my ears. But the downside is that its costing too much, especially for what I need at the moment. Its more expensive here in Malaysia( $1,750 for the 20D w/18-55 and $980 for the 300D w/18-55) than in the US due to our weak exchange rate. Anyway, after hearing from you that Canon is going to announce near gears next month, I think I will wait to see if there is a new replacement for the 300D. Once again, thanks Jim.

Hi, I am new to digital photography and now that I am thinking on
getting a DSLR, looking at 300D, I would like to know a bit about
this camera is someone can spare a few moments to advise me on a few
things. I wanted to know how fast this camera can focus(auto),
shuttle lag, if any, and how big is the buffer before it stops, say
based on JPEG Large/Fine format. I understand that the 20D is a lot
faster and has bigger buffer but I don't think I wanted to pay that
much for a DSLR at the moment since the 300D has sufficient features
for my needs. I am a casual hobbyist shooting landscape, family
gatherings and some portraiture. Currently shooting film and the
reason why I am looking at DSLR is to compliment the few lenses that
I have, 50/1.8, 100/2, 100-300USM and Tamrom 28-75/2.8. Any comments
are most appreciated. Thanks. Tim
p/s BTW, anyone knows if Canon is going to upgrade the 300D with 2nd
generation DigicII proccessor anytime soon?

Hi,
I just bought a used 100/2 in mint condition. I heard it is a pretty
sharp lense and when I saw one for sale used, I just grab it after
checking the physical considiton of the lense. Unfortunately, I
can't find the time to try it out yet but I wanted to know if this
lense has FTM. Since its used, it didn't come with box and manual
anymore. Thanks for any answers.

Can anyone please give me their honest comment on this lense? I am
planning to get a zoom lense with this focal range to do closeup and
portraits. If you have used or are still using one of this, please
let me know what you think of it? Thanks.

Thanks for all your helpful comments. I have not gone that far to assess the limitations of my camera body yet, like I said, I only pick up this interest very recently. The only limit I feel so far is my slow lens and the optic quality is very inconsistent. In most cases, I only got half a roll of decent pictures at the most. I shoot a lot of people, especially my kids and being kids, I need to capture them candidly, that's why I feel my lens is too slow to do the job. I am not really into portriature or landscape type of photography yet but I hope to move into that area eventually. Once again, thanks for all your comments and I f you have further advise, I would really appreciate them.

I have an old EOS500 for about 10 years now. I am considered a
beginner/amatuer even though I had this camera for that long but
never has been serious about photography until recently. I had been
taking quite a bit of pictures lately n also been reading more books
on photography and trying to understand more about appeture, shutter
speed, and so forth. I have also started to read more about the
types of lenses offered in the market, what is considered fast lens
as compared to the one I have, which is the Canon EF 28-105mm f/4-
5.6 usm zoom lens. I use to do mainly point n shoot with my EOS500
but since I shown more interest in photography, I started using more
of the other functions and now I found that the lense is too slow in
certain situation. My question is that can anyone of you tell me
whether I should get a better lense and continue to use my old
camera or get a newer camera like a EOS 30v/33v and stick with my
old lense. Budget is a big question here as I only have budget for
either a new body like the EOS30v/33v or a faster lense of
equivalent cost. Since I have limited experience in photography, and
would like to start taking better pictures, I would welcome your
honest opinions. Thank you.
