"So now I go on holiday and instead rattling off a couple of thousand shots over a two week period, I take six thousand shots. More kit, more storage, more expense, more effort. Again less happy."
jmho...If you're cranking out six thousand images during a two week period, you may as well be using a camcorder! I would consider that living through your viewfinder, rather than experiencing the holiday...If that makes you happy..go for it, but how do you evaluate and process that many images???
My suggestion would be to make fewer (alot fewer, say 50 or 60 max.) images and spend more time taking in the scene and considering your exposures.

Can anyone tell me what the screw size/specification is for the Nettar's tripod mount?
-
See, I knew it was a silly question...
Thanks.

Silly question, but I'm hoping somene here can answer it:
When using 120 film in my 6x9 Nettar, do the numbers that show up in the frame indicator window accuately display the
frame number for 6x9?
I know that 6x9 is kind of unusual for MF (most being 6x6 or 4.5x6) and that I will only get 8 frames per roll. So, I'm
wondering if I have to skip every other frame number on the roll, or did the film manufacturer account for this frame
size, too. My gut instinct is to trust Fuji, but the nagging question still persists.
Any help and/or pointers for a folder newbe is appreciated.
Itchin' to use my folder...

I closed the barn door after the horse got out....Translation: I purchased protection for my camera AFTER it was accidentally damaged. The LCD screen cost me $300.00 to have replaced; OUCH!
This product is a rubber housing for the camera and an acrylic shield for the LCD. The rubber lens hood looks a little goofy, but after that last repair, I don't really care about how the camera looks.
All of the function buttons are fully aperational. I'm likin it, so far.
Good luck.

Or, maybe its a simple rubber gasket around the edge (similar to the viewfinder)....They make computers impact resistant, why not cameras..(I know..cost...don't ask questions you already know the answer to..)
-
Thanks, Paul.
That's about what I was quoted.

I recentlly had to send my A100 to a Sony authorized repair center in CT for a
repair of the LCD screen. I never dropped the camera, but something
caused "impact damage" to the LCD, making unusable. (Still scratching my head
on that one.)
The estimate came back and I nearly fell on the floor. It would almost be
cheaper to buy a new camera!
Is there another decent firm that does this type of repair work without
requiring my first born in compensation?
One of the reasons I chose the Sony was because of its attractive pricing as
compared to the other two brands. It's enough to make me want to go back to
film!
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Happy New Year

This may be a silly question:
How do you update the firmware for the camera?
-
If I was an entrepeneur, I would sell a tee shirt in 18% gray. In polyester, of course...you wouldn't want it to fade when you washed it...
;)

I'm not certain that this is the answer for you, but its something to consider, none the less:
The X-700's have a fairly common issue as they age. There is a capacitor inside, which simply gives out and must be replaced in order for the camera to function. If I remember correctly, it is directly related to the shutter release function.
The replacement capacitor is cheap and the repair can be performed by any reputable camera shop that knows Minoltas. There are even instructions on the web on how to do it yourself. My 700 gave up the ghost too, but I just haven't had the confidence to attempt the repair. I came into another functioning 700, so the repair isn't vital right now.
The X700 is by far my favorite manual camera and worth the repair cost. But, you have do make that choice yourself.
Good Luck.

Champagne taste on a beer budget....Your posts confirm what I already suspected: I want more than I'm willing to pay for...
Alas, what's a cheap cuss like me to do???
My journey continues.....
-
I'm only guessing, but the photo shows an "MC" marking which I take to be a mount designation for many of the older Minoltas; including pre and "X" models. If I'm right, it won't fit on a Maxxum autofocusing camera.
I've used some Vivitar glass in the past and had absolutely no complaints.

In may haste to get the thread posted, I neglected to mention that I was intending to work on some nature photography, particularly birds. Now, I realize that birds often necessitate an even longer lens (500mm+)but cost prevemts me from going there; especially if this is a fleeting fancy.
The 100-300 range will let me work with people and some nature subjects, particularly at the beach, where I'd like to bring some of the action in.
Thanks all, for your input. I may start nosing around the used marked for a beercan.

I like to shoot both landscapes and people and am looking for some opinions on
what would be the best tele/telezoom (200 to 400mm range)value for the Sony
A100. Sony's current line seems a bit limited and the Zeiss glass a bit
pricey. I've had bad luck with the low end Sigma's, so I'm hesitant...
Suggestions???
-
Thanks Godfrey.
I had a suspicion that my older version of PS was to blame, since it didn't have any problems with jpg.
-
I'm in a similar boat...
I'm finally shooting raw in my Sony A100. When I go to download from the camera to the computer, the files aren't recognized. When I tried opening with PS 7.0, it couldn't interpret the files either. I noted that the file extensions are ".arw" not ".raw". The computer will copy the files to a folder, but they remain unopenable...
Can anyone help a raw digi-newbee with a suggestion or two (besides keep shooting film)?
Thanks.

Read the thread with interest.
What has been the overall reaction/response to Lucky film? I've seen it around, but have been suspicious of it. Does it mimic a particular emulsion?

Looking for a site that has downloadable files for my meter's
manual. I've found them for other Lunasix models, but they don't
cover all of the 3's features.
I'm particularly interested in learning about the different scales
represented by the green and red circles and the yellow triangle at
the lower yellow slide scale. Do I sound like a novice yet?
I've been using the yellow pointer to read my meterings and the
results are fine. I just want to know about the other features and
use the instrument to its fullest.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I bought my black X700 in the EARLY 80s (can't remember exactly when)and it has NEVER failed. I love the thing. I hope it stays viable enough for me t give it to my son...after I'm done with it in another 10 or 20 years...
