1. I took my Contarex out to run a film through it to findhat the focusing ring on the 50mm Planar would not turn. It has been in a dry place for about three years. When I put it away, in its ever ready case, it was working perfectly. Could anyone kindly let me know if there is some way of freeing it off without an expensive repair ?

  2. Shorter prime lenses are ideal for walking about town, taking shots of people, shops, etc. They're small and light. My preference would be a fast 35 mm lens, possibly 28 mm, but your 24 or 50 mm would work. For general photography, including landscapes, a mid-range zoom is best. My choice is a 24-70/2.8, but an 18-200 or 18-300 is a good one-lens-fits-all option, but rather slow at f/5.6 at the long end. ISO 400 film is the most flexible choice.

On a film camera traveling that far I opt for the 24-70 2.8 and get your negatives processed and scanned along the way Its getting harder to find film processors and scanners. They probably have lots of Fuji Film in india.

  3. Unfortunately the DX format is a bit limiting when it comes to choice of good wideangle lenses.
Personally I'd be packing my Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 zoom along with something a bit longer for such a trip. Have you thought about renting a lens?

I find the 70- 2.8 perfect for every thing else, but never had an opportunity like this one coming up ,I mean we'll be in the middle of no where at a cabin with a nice 180 deck.

  4. Booked a vacation in May 2017 in central Colorado, Divide near Pikes Peak, elevation bout 9100 ft..I want to get some shots of the Milky Way. According to a web site Dark Finder the noise pollution is in the center of the scale.I think it'll be pretty dark.My question is the Nikon lens 24-70 2.8 a good choice as I'm Shooting D7100 Dx format which is actually a 36-105. F 2.8 @ 30 sec 2500 ISO I'm reading is a good starting exposure.
  5.
Kit Lens made in thailand purchased in 09 w/my first digital nikon 3000 is having problems. When I'm using it gets stuck on the hump @ 35mm when I zoom back and forth. If I switch from auto to manual sometimes it's a little easier to go over the hump.I like this lens on my 3000 in P&S mode for my wife to shoot.I know this lens is built w cheap construction but the optics are pretty good.Any Quick fix?
