  1. I think your images are fine, as far as that goes, which is exactley as far as I can see. I'm no "artiste."

I agree that there is a bunch of snobbing in here, which is why I've not posted any pics. I AM new and don't want to get beat up on before I feel comfy with my own ability. I think street photagraphy is just this, if you see it and it moves you, shoot it. I don't think you HAVE to get up in a subjects face, I think that is one way of shooting "street" and is as valid, or no more so, than any other. After all, it's about the images and what moves you, not about the gear/technique. Or am I way off base here? Just an outsiders / newbies viewpoint, for what it's worth.

For sure many of the photographers here move me, and no other form of photography captures my attention as SP does. So I'll be lurking and checking things out, learning and working on my nerve / technique. Maybe one day I'll brave the critique and post my images, or maybe not.

  2. I find myself in a wierd situation here, as all the advice you've been given is good, on both sides of the coin. (other than the camera "implant.") Personally I find myself liking your attitude, tho I don't think I'd want you at one of my scenes. How weird is that. I think it boils down to I don't wanna be the one pulling your body out of the situation or having to put myself in a situation to get you out of one. If you keep that one in mind, you'll do just fine.

But I do understand your attitude. As before, good luck.

  3. Geeze Scott, lighten up. I've been a firefighter/paramedic for 16 years and was a military policeman for 7 before that. There are ALWAYS bystanders at "incidents" and as long as you are not in the way no one really cares. Camera or no camera. News people with their TV cameras are much more of a pain in the ass then any bystander. With or without a camera.

And that maneuver you were speaking of to make others walk funny? That will end with YOUR butt in the slammer. It's called assault.

Personally, If *I* show up first (and I'm not on duty), I'll help out until the paramedics arrive then stand back and take my pictures. Sure I'll miss some "good" shots, but *I* have a duty to act because of my training. The average bystander has no "duty" to act and little to no training in rescue/medical treatment anyway. As a matter of fact, if the scene is not *immediately* life threatening, ie; the car is on fire or something of that nature, we prefer bystanders to leave the scene alone as moving severely injured people can actually cause much more harm than good.

(Just to quell any doubts or raised eyebrows; I don't take my camera along while ON duty. I don't think my boss or my patients would appreciate it, and I'm usually much too busy to take any pictures anyway.)

Sabrina H. enjoy your scanner, and DO contact your local news agencies. I've had several try to recruit me as a photographer, and I'm not even any good. (Yet.) I have been looking at scanners myself, I'm just too cheap to go ahead and buy one so far. :P

    Good Luck.
