Mark...correct in your interpretation. Perhaps I was a little vague. You comments help much. I didnt consider in that light.

I found a similar question asked, but not answered so I need to post. Please
forgive if answered earlier.
I have an image that I would like offer for sale as a limited edition, but
would also like to use in a magazine article. I suspect it will be no bigger
than half a page in size, but could possibly be full page. Is it
inappropriate to offer it as a limited edition and allow it to be printed in a
magazine? Also, I have several prints that will appear in a book soon. These
will be much higher quality and larger. Should these only be sold as non-
limited editions?
Thanks as always for your help,
Paul

macro = tripod....I couldnt disagree more. A tripod is useful for macro AT TIMES, but can also cause you to miss shots because you are tied down. I almost never use a tripod. In fact all of my photos posted here are without a tripod.

Go where both the people and birds go and you'll get the most tolerant birds. Some good places in our neck of the woods. Also, if you want to shoot for a day sometime, rent a lens from Southeastern Camera and get the shots you want.

180mm Sigma Macro has always been my best lens. I'd buy that first.

Do you know if CS2 will support these in the future?
Thanks*2

Is the NEF output from a Nikon Super CoolScan 9000ED a new version? I
can't open with the new Adobe Raw Converter for CS 2, but I can open
NEF's from my D70 in CS 2.
Thanks as always,

It's part of photo.net software...look under your portfolio and click on the link. It is quite easy once you find the link!

Vivek, your comments are on the mark and well taken. I put these together in a bit of a rush. My apologies, I will annotate. I wanted to share and was a bit hasty. Not so much an excuse as an explaination.
As for other comments...These were, in fact, from the Magic Wings Butterfly House in Durham, NC. I've been helping out there a bit with photography and some other biologist type work.
My set-up has consisted of a D70 with 50mm and 180mm Macro lenses and a 20D with an MP-E 65mm. I use off camera flash and, to a lesser extent, a ringlight. I find that the off-camera flsh helps bring out the complex texture of the wings.

For those of you that enjoy butterflies, I pieced together a
presentation of some photos. If interested:

or for the non-slide show version see:

This is not so much a question as a suggestion for those who might
travel to Peru. If you have time, I suggest seeing Islas Ballestas
and the Paracas Marine Reserve. Its quite nice and an easy
destination if you are in Lima and/or going to see the Nazca Lines or
something else in the area. The bird assemblages are quite amazing
and the marine mammals also good viewing. Flamingos are present
Jan-March and you can also see Humboldt Penguins. The area seems
pretty safe for travelers and its very inexpensive. I've put together
a slide show for anyone interested.
Dont let my limited photography skills fool you; it is really great:

An aside, be careful what you wish for. Ethanol production isnt pollution free. Think of the scale we'd be considering.
One possible project could be documenting urban sprawl if you can get aerial shots. Its a huge problem here in the States...not sure about there.

A follow-up of sorts on an earlier posting by someone else. I could
use suggestions. I'm traveling to Peru this week and will be
shooting birds, marine mammals, and landscapes at Paracas Marine
Reserve and Islas Ballestas. Should be lots of sun and lots of
water. I am taking a film SLR in addition to my 20D. My questions
are:
Ideal film for this kind of low speed nature photography? I was
thinking Provia 100. I'll be shooting film for wide angle shots
(seal colonies/bird colonies)and landscapes for the most part. I
expect that I'll shoot birds in flight with my 20D as I have a truly
stunning failure rate with birds on the wing. Is there a strong
argument for a different film?
The next question is scanning (I've looked at a number of threads
here and am wondering if anything has changed). What is the
PRACTICAL limits on scanning Provia 100 or whatever film you suggest
I use (if you happen to know)? I plan to print following photoshop
manipulation.
Any other thoughts are welcomed and, as always, thanks much for the
help.

I'm off to Peru Wednesday and am taking an EOS-1 series in addition to my 20D. This will be the first time I've shot film in about 9-10 years.
Theft of a DSLR vs Film SLR has little to do with it...any camera in Peru could wander off if not well watched.
I will say this, shooting digital has made me much improved and is a big part of the reason I feel comfortable shooting film again.

I find I use my Bogen Automatic FAR more than any other monopod I've owned. The reason is because it is so simple to adjust. I use it more and get better shots for it, I think. Also, I get shots I might otherwise miss alltogether because the height can be so easily changed.
Understand its limitations however. I wouldnt put a very heavy load on it. I think its rated for 17ish lbs, but I wouldnt put near that much on it. If you're going to shoot a really heavy lens, I'd look at something else.

Other countries with valued natural heritage sites ban flash photography. I believe such is the case in the Galapagos...
-
Strictly speaking, where the eagle nests doesnt matter. The criterion is whether or not you cause them to leave a nest that would OTHERWISE produce viable chicks. If the nest 1 meter from the highway and the eagles abandon the nest because of a photograper getting too close then the photographer is at fault and the highway is not part of the argument.
-
I'm not sure of your point exactly. Eagles can nest where they choose..if they nest near a road, so be it. Thats not the same as as approaching the nest, taking pictures with a flash, and causing a nesting pair to abandon the nest.
If I missed your point, please advise.
Thanks
Paul

I think it COULD disturb the Eagle and if it is nesting and you cause it to abandon the nest I think you would be in violation of federal law. The problem is, you wont know until its too late. If the brids were not on nest, you'd probably be fine, but under these circumstances I think it would be a very bad idea. I can't give you a probability as in will, likely, possible, unlikely (but maybe)..or whatever, but it seems ill advised.
As an aside, in some countries, there are "no flash" laws for some fauna.
