No, I haven't tried another browser, I am using IE 6. But I don't think IE may cause a crash like this?

Thank you for your reply Theo, but this problem started more than a month ago :(

Hello,
For a long time I am having problems with uploading photos.Everytime
I try to upload a photo, it uploads for a while and give an error
page, "page not found"
After 15-20 try, I am having it uploaded, but it is very annoying to
try again anad again.
My photos are in limits for file size and dimensions, my connection
is fine, I am uploading photos to other sites without problem.
What can I do about it, any advices?
Thanks for your interest.

I got the scanner yesterday, I was expecting a huge, metal cased scanner, but a toy come with the cargo :)
First few scans was horrible but I didn't have a chance to spend some time with it yet, I guess I will find the best way to use it.
Best,

Dear Adam and Tom, thank you for your replies.
I will try both b&w and color scans on same negative and I will check the results myself, sure, but getting recommendations like this is helpful. Now, I will consider color scans with more attention.
What about multi-sample scanning, do you use it often, and how many exposures?
I don't have time problem, speed of scanning is not important to me, so I can use multi-sample scanning if it really helps.

Thank you very much John,
I checked the Vuescan site, there is no ready Trix settings but it recommends checking Tmax options.I found some values on photo.net board.I guess I will learn it while testing the software.

Hi,
After my previous post and very helpful answers, I ordered Minolta
Scan Dual IV, it will be arrived tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I read almost all topics about Minolta-Vuescan-Silverfast,
I am still confused.
I shoot b&w film, mostly Trix.
I always make post process in Photoshop after I get my scans from
lab.Scans were always dark, with wrong tones which makes me need to
work on them.
I prefer make changes in PS. So, do I still need to have an extra
software like Vuescan, Silverfast etc. or can I just use the software
that comes with the scanner?
And what else do I need to know?
Is multi-sample scanning helpful for b&w film scans? How many
exposures are recommended, 2,4,8?
I am also confused if I need to make a direct monochrome scan, or do
I need to make a color scan and convert to b&w in PS, I read
different opinions?
Do you find manuals useful that come with the hardware?
I guess more questions will come to my mind after your replies.
Thank you for your time again answering these thousand times asked
questions, plz tolerate my desire :)

Thank you all for your help and saving my $500, I ordered the Dual Scan IV today :)
Best,

Thanks Tom,
"Rather than gamble nearly a thousand dollars that I can make the CoolScan V work with alternative software and methods, I would rather find a film scanner that produces good b&w scans as advertised, using the standard software and workflow."
This is exactly what I am thinking at the moment.
I tried to contact Minolta importers but they were closed for weekend.
I guess I will go for DualScan IV if I can find one here.
Dualscan III is around 550$ here, I wonder how much will they ask for IV :(
-
Thanks Joshua, I noticed your reply after I post.
Actually, I prefer thinking about a Minolta after so much negative responces about the Nikon.Minolta is also cheaper, the Dual scan IV.
I am still in search.
Best,
-
Thank you all again,
It is more clear now, I will go for the Dual Scan IV or Elite 5400, I am reading about their specs now.
It is also hard to find those items here, I just found a dualscan III, still searching for others.
It is clear that one of the most important thing is the software but it is better I search about it later when I get the scanner.

Thank you all for your answers.
I first decided to get a Epson 2870 flatbed, after all the negative comments, I searched more and came with the V ED and just before buying it, I am at the starting point again.
Your answers are not much motivating :)
I like the feel of TriX, like to develop my film and never think of using a C41 B&W film, so we can pass this option at the moment.
Since I will not use ICE and other options because I will keep using silver based film, it is not important to buy a scanner that has the latest software.
So, what do you recommend, which scanner is a good choice for me, to scan B&W film, mostly TriX again?
Thanks for your interest.

Hello,
After a long money saving and thinking period, I decided to buy a
Nikon coolscan V ED.It costs $1000 here and this is big money, so I
want to hear last few words about it, just to feel safer :)
I am only shooting B&W 35mm film, Trix400 mostly. I get 12*18 prints.
Sometimes, I read complaints about monochrome scans with V ED, what
are your experiences?
And it is written that DigitalICE is not recommended with monochrome
scans, what are your experiences?
Thank you for your time to answer this "many-times-asked" question.

Np, it was my mistake actually and no, I didn't get your e-mail Jennifer.I will e-mail the info to you in minutes, thanks.

Hello,
I am a subscribed member and recommend my friends to subscribe.
So, one of my friends who is a member of Photo.net decided to
subscribe, since she doesn't have a paypal account I made the payment
through my account and added a note about her photo.net info.
Then I saw that my subsciption is extended, instead of her account.
I made a mistake, making the payment through my account but I thoguht
adding a note to paypal payment would be enough. It was not.
So I sent 3 e-mails about this situation but haven't heard back yet.
I wonder if any one can take care of this.
Thanks for your interest.

Thank you very much Eric,
So, this is what we can get from noritsu, too bad.
It really works fast with Digital Ice and scan in few minutes but I have problems with 12*18inches b/w prints.
There is another negative scanner here in another lab, a Nikon, it certainly give better results and bigger files like 30mb.But they ask for a week to make scans and I was wondering if we can get better results from the Noritsu with some adjustments.
Thanks for your answer again, no doubt I need to continue with the Nikon.

Hello,
I use the scanner of Noritsu Minilab, and the scanner is Noritsu S2.
Below, you can find the technical details of the scanner, I couldn't
find info in English;
-------------------
NORITSU S2
Sensor : CCD (3x4600)
Auflösung : KB = 4600 ppi
MF 6x6 = 3200 ppi
Scanverfahren: Zeilensensor
Vorlagen: Film (Neg./Pos.)
Farbtiefe: 24 Bit
Geschwindigkeit: 300 MB/Minute
Dmax: 3,2
Vorlagen: APS
KB 35 mm
MF 6x9 cm max.
Vorlagen-Transport: automatisch
Daten-Farbraum: sRGB
----------------------
Now, when I get my scans, I see that they are 2075*3130
(72piksel/inch)and files are around 18mb for b/w scans.
I was thinking I could have bigger files, so I am disappointed.
Comparing the technical details, what can you say? Is it what this
scanner can do best or can't we use it correctly?
And I wonder if any of you use the same scanner.
Thanks for your time,
Best

Thank you very much.
I bought them from a lab and I guess they store films in their store.
So, I will shoot +1stop and I will see the results, then I can think of pulling if the results are bad.
Thanks again for your time.

I've tried some searched but couldn't find an answer, sorry if this
is cross-posting.
I have 6 months outdated Tmax3200 films. Is there anything I can do
while shooting and washing to have better results from outdated
films, any different process?
Thanks,
-
Thanks for the link Al and thanks for the test results Jan.
I read the Scheneider hand book and found the related text.
So after so much posts, we can say that it is all depends on your equipment, metering cells, films etc.
I am still not able to make my own outdoor test btu will share as soon as I make it.
Thank you very much.
-
Thanks Donald,
I always use Tri-X.As I decided I will go and make more tests outdoor first, then I may have more questions.
Thank you all again for your interest.
-
@Al, can you direct me to a link with Schneider's recommendation?
What I found in their site is;
Almost all cameras today have a built-in light meter. The multiplying factor is then automatically included in the calculation.
This must be a general term, please help me to find the link.
Thanks,
-
Thank you very much, this is really a helpful thread for me now.
Well, I made my test indoors with spot metering, then when I see the results are same,I gave up thinking I was right.
Now, I need to spend a whole day outdoors and make lots of test metering with all exposure methods and with different subjects.
I also make my meterings mostly with spot metering from faces.White skins reflects %35 of light, which means I underexposure 1 stop normally, right? Plus, 1 stop from red filter, that makes total of 2 stops underexposure which we can easily notice.
I guess I need to make the tests and see myself.I will share my results when I am done.
Thank you very much.
Best,
-
Thanks Donald,
Yes, you are right and I will stick to my method but I want to learn what is the common method.
Well, maybe there is no common method, everyone can have the best result of his own in different ways. So,lets say what is the recommended method.
Best,
I am trying to remind a book...

Hi,
I have a very hard question here.I lost my favouirtes while
formatting my computer and I am still trying to remind a
photographer and one of his books.
Here is the very weak info that I remember;
* The photographer is from one of South America countries if my
memory is right.
* Book has photographs from a beach in a city, with really tight DOF
and they are B&W. People on the beach, playing football, running
etc. but really tight DOF, even like stains.
I also remember that the photographer is famous, not too old and his
portfolios in his website was scrolling horizontal, not vertical.
I am sure anyone who saw that book will just remember it, very
stylistic. It is the matter to find the one who saw the book now :)
I know there is not much info but I appreciate any help.I need to
see those photos again while I am alive :)
Thanks in advance.
