Pretty much anything will work in that. Seems silly to spend money on a high speed card when you will get exactly the same performance from a standard speed card. You can get a 2gb card on Amazon for under $35."

True except it will be reformatted after my trip and used mainly in my Nikon D2Xs. I usually just use a 512kb card in my canon, but it is full. My pc is old and no real disk space left and I have just ordered a new pc to replace it.

  2. I think you are better off keeping the D70 unless its limitations prevent you from capturing the images you seek. Having the lastest equipment should not be your main concern. Your focus should be to master the craft of photography. Learn how to read the light, composition, exposure and the other elements in making a photograph.
  3. I am looking two buy a zoom for those times when I visit a zoo with my kids.

With a 2 year old and 9 mos old, I don't dare carrier my 70-200VR. Which of

these two lenses (70-300D/G) would you suggest I buy?

  4. Los Gatos Camera is another. They used to have better pricing and more knowledgeable staff than the a-holes at SJ Camera & Video. SJ Camera & Video used to have a wide range of camera and accessories, but over the years they have dwindle and are a niche market seller now. Their prices arfe okay, but B&H is much better.

Bear Images Photo, Inc. in Palo Alto (not to far from K&S) is a high-end supplier of digital imaging equipment.

  5. I am looking to buy a second zoom lense and have narrowed my selection down to

either the Nikon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF Zoom Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G

ED-IF AF-S VR Autofocus Lens or the Nikon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF Zoom

Nikkor 24-85mm f/2.8-4.0D IF Autofocus Lens. I would like your thoughts as to

which of the two lenses I should buy.

  6. I am trying to determine the cost of scanning slides. I have 35mm

and 120mm slides I would like to have scanned by a professional

lab. I was told drum scanning is the best as I want to do post

processing with files that have the great amount of detail. Given

that, what would it cost to scan a roll of 35mm 36 exp. slide film

and a roll of 120mm 15 exp. slide film? When I try understanding

the cost data from say the New Lab, all it says is $50. Is that per

image, per roll. Also, does the data get burned to a CD of DVD?

    Thank you.

  7. "seems to me that people have a hard time coming to grips with the fact that this $800 body *IS* a $300 camera (with a $500 sensor inside). So it gets compared to the $800 film cameras."

Same holds true with the pro-level digital cameras. The D2x is a $2K body with a $3K sensor. Canon's top tier has even a bigger I gotcha! Hey the reality is that hot new items come at a price. Remember those awful LED watches that cost a $100 when they first hit the market. Eventually they were had for a song.

  8. "In my humble opinion, all the "consumer" DSLRs made now are basically toys."

I don't know why you would say that??? Many pros use "consumer" DSLRs as their backup camera. No pro I know would depend on a toy for that. Too much at stake. I think it would be in your best interest not to make a generalized statement. It will only leave people with the impression that you are ignorant. Simply put, state your argument and then back them with facts.

  9. "BW Combs , aug 11, 2005; 12:12 p.m.

I went through 2 of those LCD protectors on my D70, until I got wise.

I tied a short length of string (in my case, a very thin piece of flyfishing leader) to the protector and connected it between my tripod quickrelease plate and the base plate of the camera. It has popped off several times, but cannot fall to the ground.

In fact, I can pop it off quickly, and it simply hangs down from the body, when I want to show a review to a client or friend."

While I can't answer to your lens hood issue, I can vouch for BW Combs suggestion. I too have tied flyline tippet between neck strap lug and the LCD protector. Just simple drill a small hole in the protector and tie on the tippet material or any other material you like. It has saved me the hassle of buying a new one.

  10. Your idea of a prime might be the way to go. It certainly gives me the faster lens I am looking for without breaking the bank and with a baby on the way and the need to buy a bigger house that just may be what I need. Thanks!
  11. Yes I do have the 18-70 kit lens, but I wish it were a faster lens at the wide end. I also find myself shooting more in the range of 24mm-28mm (36mm-42mm). Rarely do I go wider than that.
  12. Shun,

I have a Nikon D70. My subject will mostly be gardens (both private and public). I want the flexibility to go from showing a theme to isolating a subject.

  13. I am considering the purchase of a zoom lens and I have narrowed

down my selection to either: 24-120 f3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR or the

28-105 f3.5-4.5D AF. Would the 24-120 VR be much of an advantage

over the 28-105 given most of my shots will be done on a heavy duty

    tripod?
