Hi all,
I posted a question to the roll film category regarding the use of a 6
x 17 back on a Horseman Woodman. I have found that I cannot use my
Nikkor f8 90mm lens due to the lens being too far from the ground
glass on the new back (which is 38mm behind the normal gg).
I am after a recessed lens panel with a minimum of 26mm to make it
work. The lens panel size is the same as for Linhof Teknica (94 x
96mm). Linhof make s a20mm panel I think, does anyone know of any
other panel which have more recess than this?
Thanks in advance...
Mike

Yes you're right Michael, it's 38mm. I was reading about a different one that had 47mm, can't remember, it may have been the Shen Hao? Anyway it looks like I can get the front standard no closer than 75mm from the ground glass meaning, with the 6 x 17 back installed, I will have a minimum distance of 75 + 38 = 113mm. This wont be enough to focus the 90mm lens to infinity I don't think. I'll need a recessed len panel with about 25mm of recess. Does this all sound correct to you?

Thanks Michael for your input. Your right, the problem is the fact that there may not be enough rear movement along the rails to get good focus due to the extra 47mm for the film plane of the 6 x 17 back. The back should arrive soon and I will repost here with all the info about wheteher it works or not. Meantime I'll scour the threads here for more info.
Thanks again.

I'm just about to receive a 6 x 17 back for my Horseman Woodman and am
wondering if my present 90mm Nikkor SW F8.0 lens will work OK. It
seems like there may not be enough movement left in the standards to
get proper focus? Anyone had experience with this?

Thanks to everyone for all the informative responses. I've decided to go for a 6 x 9 roll film holder first then use a combination of Readyloads and sheet film. Seems the Kodak Readyload is the one to get as it apparently takes Fuji film as well.

Another question from the newbie. What do most LF landscape
photographers do? Do they use Quickload film packs or sheet film
holders? Suggestions much appreciated as I need to know what to
purchase for my first forays into LF photography.

Thanks Frank and Forrest, that's very helpful.

I am new to LF and am wondering which lenses are not compatible with
the Horseman Woodman 4 x 5? I am thinking of a 75mm and 90mm Super
Angulon?
