  1. For indoor available light photography, you will need a lens with a large maximum aperture (these lenses are known as "fast" lenses) A maximum aperture of greater than f2.8 would generally be considered fast. So your quantaray will not cut it. Go for a fast prime, 50mm f1.8 - really cheap, 35mm f2, 85mm f1.8. All of these lenses get rave reviews, and you won't be disappointed.

Evolution of DESIGN or manufacturing processes as time progresses and technology evolves WILL indeed solve these problems....You can count on it.......Don't be silly....

  3. Hi all. I searched this on PN but could get no good answer I'm

afraid. I'm considering getting an OM-1 and zuiko 50 f1.8 to shoot

star trails. I was wondering what locking cable release will I need

for the camera? Many thanks in advance.

<<When Canon introduced the 1Ds 2.5 years ago, a lot of people also claimed that prices would drop rapidly such that in 5 years full-frame would be the norm. Now we are half-way through that 5 year period. The 1Ds' successor is out but the 1Ds Mark 2 is still $8000>>

One of the reasons that the full frame Canon is still $8000 is because no one is providing a real full frame competitor to that camera. Sure large sensors remain costly to produce, but if Kodak can sell its DCS Pro SLR for $3500 (for all its problems) that surely indicates canon is making quite a good margin on the 1Ds2. Canon will have no incentive to reduce prices until Nikon steps up to the plate.

  5. Kathy, you already have the wide angle slot filled with the Tamron, and low light (middle) with the 50 f1.8. Go for something in the 70-200 range. The Canon 70-200mm f4 gives very pleasing results.
  6. There is a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC yes. It will only work on APS sized digital sensors, ie the 10d or 20d. It will vignette severely on your film bodies however. DC is Sigmas name for APS specific digital lenses. Tamron has Di 11 (note the 28-75 is Di, so it will work on your film bodies), and last but definitely not least Canon has EF-S lenses which only work with APS sized digital sensors.
