Jarek, The MAXIMUM aperture of the lens must be at least f5.6 for autofucus to work on consumer Canon DSLR's and f8 for their pro line. The sigma will autofocus at 200mm and f6.3 as its maximum aperture at 18mm is f3.5. If the max aperture at 18mm was 5.6 or less, AF would be disabled.

Just lookin at the Oly 4/3 f2 zooms and wondering if anyone can tell
me if it could be done for a full frame format reasonably? I'm
presuming no, cos they don't exist, at least as far as I know. But
maybe someone can inform me as to why.

Darren Carlin, The 350D kit is available from technikdirekt.de for E798 plus E22 for shipping to Ireland. I've ordered from them before and they are very good value. If you do decide to order from them, MAKE SURE to get the tracking number from them.

For indoor available light photography, you will need a lens with a large maximum aperture (these lenses are known as "fast" lenses) A maximum aperture of greater than f2.8 would generally be considered fast. So your quantaray will not cut it. Go for a fast prime, 50mm f1.8 - really cheap, 35mm f2, 85mm f1.8. All of these lenses get rave reviews, and you won't be disappointed.

It's just as well that Nikon users don't feel the need for a FF camera.

"Please don't start an EF-S is a dead-end thread"
Haven't you just done so?! Ironic no?

IS won't freeze motion for you, so it will be no addition for shooting you're kids.
-
I suppose that all comes down to the sticky point of what constitutes "excessive usage". Canon's may very well differ from mine!

Will Canon replace the shutter under warranty if you have exceeded
its design life within the warranty period?
-
Why bother answer when you have nothing to say?

"Evolution of design or manufacturing processes will not solve these problems"
Evolution of DESIGN or manufacturing processes as time progresses and technology evolves WILL indeed solve these problems....You can count on it.......Don't be silly....

Consider the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 XR Di as you're standard zoom......It's a cut above the 28-135 and 17-85 IS. Less expensive too.

Canon have the stated aim of having only one 1D series camera in the future, which will presumably combine the features of both the 1D2 and the 1Ds. It is likely that it will be full frame and the 1.3X will go. When this will happen is anyones guess.

Hi all. I searched this on PN but could get no good answer I'm
afraid. I'm considering getting an OM-1 and zuiko 50 f1.8 to shoot
star trails. I was wondering what locking cable release will I need
for the camera? Many thanks in advance.

<<When Canon introduced the 1Ds 2.5 years ago, a lot of people also claimed that prices would drop rapidly such that in 5 years full-frame would be the norm. Now we are half-way through that 5 year period. The 1Ds' successor is out but the 1Ds Mark 2 is still $8000>>
One of the reasons that the full frame Canon is still $8000 is because no one is providing a real full frame competitor to that camera. Sure large sensors remain costly to produce, but if Kodak can sell its DCS Pro SLR for $3500 (for all its problems) that surely indicates canon is making quite a good margin on the 1Ds2. Canon will have no incentive to reduce prices until Nikon steps up to the plate.

Kathy, you already have the wide angle slot filled with the Tamron, and low light (middle) with the 50 f1.8. Go for something in the 70-200 range. The Canon 70-200mm f4 gives very pleasing results.

Didn't you post this before?

It's a canon EF mount, for eos slr cameras. I believe you can get an adaptor for EF lenses to mount on some canon video cameras however.
-
Afraid not no.............
-
Why not get the new EOS 350D? It's small and light, and presumably you already have canon lenses from your 10d kit.
-
Of course Jim is right, the Canon digital specific lenses (EF-S) will not mount on a 10d, but the Sigma and Tamron equivalents will.
-
The power of photography can often be inspiring, but in pales in significance to the power of nature.

There is a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC yes. It will only work on APS sized digital sensors, ie the 10d or 20d. It will vignette severely on your film bodies however. DC is Sigmas name for APS specific digital lenses. Tamron has Di 11 (note the 28-75 is Di, so it will work on your film bodies), and last but definitely not least Canon has EF-S lenses which only work with APS sized digital sensors.

Damn........beaten to it. Must type faster.
