  1. you are very lucky! I also held it today in Tokyo Shinjuku big camera shops then I asked if I can pay for one immediately. Nope! Have to wait at list 3 weeks to 3 months and they require a 50% deposit. Same situation in all places in tokyo whatever size their shops are. Even offered to pay for the demo camera (jokingly though) but nope, it is sold out already...oh well...
  2. I find it more expensive to buy in duty-free shops specially in Japan. Kansai Airport is an island relatively far from the camera stores in Osaka City's electronics/camera shop district. If ever you manage to go to Osaka Station - Yodobashi Camera is just right outside of the north exit. You can get good deals there also.

    がんばって!

  3. Hi Rosmini, I also suggest a TLR. As a first step, I took the Mamiya C220 with exchangeable lenses (quite heavy), then shifted to the RB67 Pro S (very heavy), then the M645 (lightest amongst the three). Most of these can be bought relatively cheaply - never got used to using the prism finder - always used the waist level finder.

Nowadays, I use a Bronica ETRS. I scan the film with an Epson 4990/GT-X800 (I'm in Japan)so probably it will suffice for my digital needs. Now I want to go back to a TLR - probably a smallish Minolta Autocord or similar will do. Composing with the waist-level finder is very different and a joy (vey big view) - except for the reversed left and right then disorienting to level horizons sometimes. Good luck in your choice(s) and enjoy going back to film.

  4. Hi Ben,

I have/bought the SMC Pentax-A 50mm f1.2 in good condition at a used camera shop for an equivalent US$80. You can still buy it in Japan new for equiv. US$600.

    Hope that helps.

  5. I agree it's a bit fuzzy, probably camera is still shaking a bit with the very slow shutter speed :-( yup with the self timer and MLU and on a tripod. anyway - just in case if they do find it cheaply not too bad own it :-) it has this one other option of doing macro also - it goes down 5cm from the object at 250mm or 1:1.4. i'll try to post beter pixs when it's not drizzling in the Kanto plain :-)
  6. great shots! i used to have one before i switched to pentax. i used the ex-25 + 45-150mm for macro shots and a tokina 400mm SD (via OM-4/3). it was really good even for further cropping. the vf just hurt my eyesight though after a whole day shooting - and i do have the Pen F also. :-)

    Enjoy!<div>00HbIM-31669184.jpg.5a32efd26adb9f91ca84773df13ea5e2.jpg</div>
