  1. Nikon has so many sharp lenses, and for a starter, I would suggest 50mm 1.8 (less than

$100), or 60 mm 2.8 macro. 105mm 2.8 macro is razor sharp. By definition, most of the

macro lenses are sharp. What do you want to photograph with sharp lens?

  2. I just bought a used Nikon 8000 scanner to scan 6X4.5 negatives and slides and results are

very close to professional drum scan, which I used to get at a reputed studio. I don't know

how much is the quality difference between Nikon 8000 and 9000, but I could tell you that I

purchased 8000 for half the price of 9000. I bought it from someone I know and I knew that

scanner was hardly used. If you look around, you may find a good deal. Before I purcahsed

the scanner, I have tried flatbeds at our local university, which were nice but not close to film

scanner in terms of resolution. Hope it helps.

  3. I could comment on some places in North India. Ranthambore Park would be on top of my

list in Northern India and you may get chance to shoot tigers and elephants there. Within

a day's travel is Bharatpur ( 2hours drive from Agra-Taj Mahal), which is home to Ghana/

Keoladev Bird Sanctuary, and if you are into bird's photography, you would love it there.

There is also Sariska National park between New Delhi and Jaipur (close to Ranthambore),

and I have sighted Tigers there a few years ago, but I have heard that they don't have any

    Tigers there now.

June will be hot and August may be wet, depending on the Monsoon.
