Understanding the work of a genius is very rarely a trivial task. I would certainly be very suspicious of anyone claiming to have <i>"got" his photos when I first saw them</i> unless they were a genius themselves.
<p>
I don't like what I've seen of Eggleston's work because I haven't put enough effort into the process. To be frank, I have no desire to go down that route. What is sufficient for me are the pictures that give an inkling as to why Eggleston is held in such high regard. <a href = "http://www.photo.net/photo/2529947" > This </a> little gem from PN's own Balaji is such an example.

Johann,
Interesting stuff. Do you have some examples of the issues you found with the 24mm?
BTW, I think an depth reviews of the ef primes would be most welcome on photo.net

Boris,
Thanks for bringing the book to our attention. Very powerful stuff.

<i>But the difference is that the street shots taken because the scene either moves, excites, angers or otherwise causes emotion in the photographer--or because the object is there and the finger is one the camera button. Street shots may or may not tell a story, have a theme or have a reason for being shot other than the photographer wanted to shoot them.</i>
<p>
Sounds like you are describing all forms of photography.

Yes, I must agree with Rene. I don't see anything offensive in the post. I dont't understand it, but it seems harmless enough.

What a ponce. You'll be saying he uses a telephoto lens next.

Mind you, any film with the delightful JB is worth watching. I'm sure it was filmed in the best possible taste.

Given that Shriro own HB and Lindt, can we look forward to a chocolate camera?

Eric,
I'd never eat a dog. Never, ever. My post was a piss-take of oriental cuisine.

I think this series is brilliant.
It captures an innocence/acceptance that has been lost to the western world. Can you imagine, for example, Grant, or Brad, or Maria, or Ed, or Ray, taking pictures of modern day muslims expressing their beliefs and frustrations. Both the photographers and their subjects would be banged up and shafted.

<i>I don't understand why people buy expensive DSLR to shoot dogs. </i>
<p>
No, I agree. Why photograph them when you can EAT them.

At least he had the sense to keep the G2

Trevor,
A bit OT, but what printer did you use to generate the B&W Prints.
