Hello there,
I've just recently learned about the Holga-Website (<www.holga.net>).
What is your opinion of the cheap Holgas? Just a cheap plastic thing
that's crap? Or an interesting gimmick? Or a not-so-expansive way to
try medium format?
What can they be used for? Do you use slide or negative film? Does
anybody have some pictures that were taken with a Holga?
Thanks,
Andre

Thanks to everybody.
The 75-300 IS is at ~460 EUR, which is just between the 135 2.8 and the 70-200 f4L.
I gotta think about it.

Now I'm curious: What is the street price for the 70-200 f4L in the US? I know somebody who will go there to a university, maybe....
Thanks,
Andre

The Photonotes.org link doesn't seem to work right now.
Yakin: Do you mean the 100-300 L or the 100-300 4.5-5.6 USM? The latter one would be affordable, the other one not.
Jean-Baptiste: The 70-200 4 L is about 650 EUR here in Germany, which would be more than twice the 135 2.8 SF.
Thanks,
Andre

Hello,

I'm sorry to ask for your help again, but I'm somehow lost in the
Canon Telezoom jungle.

I want to buy a second lens (beside my 50mm 1.8) for street
photography and portraits. One alternative is the EF 135 2.8 Soft
Focus, but I also want to consider a zoom lens. For my purpose a zoom
between 100-200mm would be best. My budget is about 350-400 Euros, and
there are several lenses who fall into this street-price range. Some
are:

EF 28-200mm 3.5-5.6 USM
EF 55-200mm 4.5-5.6 USM
EF 55-200mm 4.5-5.6 IIUSM
EF 80-200mm 4.5-5.6 II
EF 100-300mm 4.5-5.6 USM
EF 75-300mm 4.0-5.6III USM

Maybe:
EF 28-135mm 3.5-5.6 IS USM
EF 75-300mm 4.0-5.6 IS USM

How do these lenses compare picture-quality wise to the 135 2.8 SF?
Or would you get that prime lens instead of a zoom?
Are there any other lenses (from other manufacturers) I should
consider?

Thank you very much again!!!
Hello,
I only own the EF 50mm 1.8 and want to buy a short tele lens soon. One
alternative is the 135mm 2.8 Soft Focus. I want to do portraits and
street photography from a farther distance (compared to the 50mm).
Another one could be the EF 80-200 mm 1/4.5-5.6 II. But I fear it is
just "cheap". I didn't find much information on the Internet, so can
anybody here tell me about that lens? I cannot afford a L-series lens,
and I would still prefer the 135 2.8 over a 28-135 3.6-5.6.
So what is the picture quality of the EF 80-200?
Thanks,
Andre

I found another beautiful one here: http://www.photo.net/photo/2520526

Hello there,
I am just reading the german edition of John Hedgecoe's "The New
Manual of Photography". Since it is not the internation edition my
page numbers probably won't match yours but on page 142 in the chapter
"Warm Colors" there is a portrait on the left that is lit only by a
burning match (or something similar). You can only see one half of the
woman's face, parts of her neck and shoulder, and the hand that holds
the match. Everything else is mostly black.
The description says: "Pentax, 100 mm, 1/8 sec., f 2,8, tripod,
Agfachrome 200."
I would also like to make similar pictures (I love that orange-ish
lighting) with my Canon EOS 300v (I guess that's Rebel Ti in the US)
and the EF 50mm 1,8.
Do you have any hints how to set up such a photo? I would appreciate
any hint!!
Thanks a lot,
Andre

Thanks for the responses. Now I'm really enthusiastic about it and I will order one. Do you have some tips for "artistic use"? For instance filters. I saw some photos with cool warm colours. Does this depend on the unique "weirdness" of the camera I will get, or do you recommend some funny filters?
