  1. Regarding shipping to Canon, simply write a brief letter of problem, contact details and ship the lens. Canon will respond after receiving it with and estimate and payment options. You will also be able to track the repair process with a number and website they provide. You can also use the following site for repair request:

My guess, your lens repair will be around $150 US.

  2. Well after nearly 3 years, I just got my 5D today. The price was just under $2,000 and just the fact it is a full frame sensor will keep the resale value reasonably high. I'm not going to worry about the 5DII because this is a great camera as it is. It's image quality is a noticeable improvement from the 1D IIN.
  3. Richard, I wish I had known you were looking for a photo companion, I feel exactly the same

way! I may be able to get away before April for something, this seems to be a great forum to

find that travel photo buddy. Feel free to contact me, perhaps something could be worked

    out....

  4. Eric, the camel/pyramid shot was taken with my 1D Mark IIN, Canon 24-70 F2.8, no filters. One of the many 'mistakes' I did on this tour was to be somewhat lazy. For the most part, I only took one camera and lens out on each day I went shooting. While it forced me to use what I have, and that's a good excercise, but having traveled all that way, I should have taken a second body/lens.

I also felt that as I relied on public transportation such as taxi, bus and train, I was not able to go off the beaten path as I would have liked. I feel my Morocco images were better if comparing.

  5. This is truly a difficult question I face each time I go on a photo trip. My last two trips I took

my 70-200 2.8 IS lens which is great for low light but extremely heavy, so this time, as I

write this from the middle of Egypt, I decided to take a lighter 70-200 2.8 non IS lens, a

24-70 2.8 and a 16-35 2.8 and only one flash. While it is still heavy in the backpack, once

reaching my hotel base, I take out only what I need when going out and about. Each day, I

go out with only one body and one lens forcing myself to shoot with what I have. I think it's

a good mental exercise as well.

  6. Hi everyone, I'm heading to Egypt in a couple of days and just need your help with with the type of gear I

should take. I plan to take photojournalism type images, particularly of the culture along with the

historic must see sights. Would you suggest taking the Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS lens, Canon 70-200 f4.0

or a Sigma 70-200 2.8 (I think it's a 70-200). The weight of the 2.8 IS is horrendous, but the low light

capabilities sure do come in handy, will I need the IS? Or should I go with the lighter Sigma 2.8, it will

give me the 1 stop over the very light Canon 70-200 f4 lens? FYI, I do have 2 canon 1dIIN Bodies that I

plan to take with a wide 16-35 or 24-70 2.8's on one of the bodies.

Thanks for your input, I am confused. Oh to see the type of images I end up with, www.brideday.com, on

top of the front page at the moment.

  7. I too took a trip to Morocco in November 06 and had no trouble with anyone checking my

gear in customs, and I had 2 1dN bodies, and 2.8 glass. I felt totally safe in Marrakesh and

Tangiers. Cassablanca by the mosque seemed safe also, it's funny, you will adopt a car care

taker at every street where you'll be expected to pay a fee, though not mandatory.

You can take a look at my morocco images at :

  8. Hi all, I'm planning a photo trip to Mexico and need a translator or guide that

can get me into photo ops without getting in harms way. I think a translator

would do wonders in getting great access. Anyone know how I can find one that's

reasonable? I'd like to land at Mexico City and then look for the Mayan and

    Indian villages.

    Thanks,

    Kalim

  9. I was one of those who converted from Nikon and while I won't be going back to Nikon, because I've invested too much in lenses, I am excited that they put out their first FF camera. At $5000 US, I do believe that Canon will be forced to either lower their prices and/or increase the frame rate of the slow 5D with an upgrade. It is well overdue.
