    Dark waters

I love this shot. This is an unusual shot of a waterfall, but I like it this way---the fibres are delightful. My compliments.

I tried out a similar idea sometime back at Bridal Veil falls, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio (see attachment), but it didn't come out so nice.

I love this composition. While agreeing with Jayme, I will venture to add that a little underexposure and a digital neutral density filter, or an actual neutral density filter would perhaps soften the harsh lighting effects. But please take my words with a pinch of salt; I'm pretty much an amateur.

I've been through your portfolio, and I like it a lot. Please keep sharing.

  1. Thanks for your comment. This shot holds a special corner in my mind due to the conditions in which this was taken. There was a snowstorm the previous day and the temperature dropped to subzero. My attire was not geared for this type of weather, but I managed to go through the drama all right. The first-hand sight was much more spectacular.
  2. Amarji, in my opinion this is a wonderful capture. Technical details apart, I find the blend of concentration, poise, energy and dynamics extremely good.

You see, we like to see the very good works being better, even if we have little idea what the ``better'' may be like :-) In this spirit now a little personal opinion: I have had the good fortune to observe various Indian musicians both during their live performances and during their practice sessions. Perhaps the intensity of concentration is far more evident and frequent during practice sessions compared to performances in front of an audience. During these sessions, what I have found most striking are the strifes for perfection, infinitesimal deviations from the goal, the subsequent self-criticism and pain, all of which get reflected in the entire beings of great musicians. The moments flit but are significant, to me they symbolize creation...

I hope to see many more such pictures in your gallery.

  3. First of all, let me apologize for not returning earlier.

Thank you Morgan for your kind words; shooting this particular shot was fun too, almost a game with the wind and sun (see below).

Thank you Matt for your comment. This particular set of flowers were quite covered up by quite an appreciable amount of foliage on top of it, and a little bit of sun shone on the left half of the set at times due to the wind. The time was midday, and this is the best I could manage. A shot from above was possible, but would have eliminated the sky.

Thank you so much Amar, this shot came out precisely as I had intended. The others are either hazy due to the wind, or somehow not just the right amount of sun on the flowers. I cherish your comment, and thank you so much for your encouragement.

Thank you all for taking your time. I am trying to learn photography, and your comments are truly of great value.

    Futility

A lone worn leaf had found its way inside my apartment sometime back.

Finally it has come to use... Please leave your comments, I always

    learn from your views. Thanks

  4. First of all, in my opinion this is a very gentle picture. The mood shines, despite the absence of sunshine. Do you think it would make a difference if the view was a little off-center? And there is perhaps some shiny stuff (signboard?) on the nearest tree to the right which perhaps doesn't quite match with the rest of the image... Oh, there are some more ``down the road'' too. Perhaps can be cloned out...
