IMHO given your subjects, there is good reason to go for a Rollei TLR. One option is perhaps to purchase a reasonable Rolleicord Xenar cheap off ebay and look at the results. These TLRs lend a particularly appealing slightly low-contrast soul that's difficult to get (if not impossible) in other formats. A different option would be to consider a Rolleiflex SL66 + a selection of lenses tuned to portrait work.
