Awesome thanks!

I am a wedding still photographer, have never been to this video
forum before, and couldn't find any answers using the "search"
function. Please forgive me in advance if this quesiton has been
asked a million times already and please direct me to the right
place for help.
I am wanting to make vintage looking black & white videos of events.
I would like to use an old 8mm movie camera. I see a lot of them on
ebay.com My quesiton is: can you still buy 8mm film for this, and if
so where? Do I need to buy and learn how to do my own editing? Or if
I don't want to do any editing - what do I do after I record the
film? Transfer it to VHS or DVD? How can I watch a 8mm movie?
All help apprecaited!!!

Can you shoot black & white "in camera" with the Nikon D100? I've
been through the manual and can't find anything about it...
Thanks in advance.

My MB D100 grip is eating up my AA rechargeables like crazy. I'm
getting about 50-70 shots with monitor OFF before I have to change
out all six AAs. When shooting a wedding this isn't going to be
practical. I know the grip wll take two EM batteries but it seems
like I would need at least four of them to get through a eight hour
shooting day at weddings. Is this my best bet? To stock up on the
larger EM batteries?
Thanks,

They are the only ones and it takes about 6 to 12 months to get your film back. I'm still waiting on a roll of film to be developed that I sent them in Spring of 2002. And you thought one hour service took too long! :-)

p.s. you only heard that from one person? They sell thousands of those. You might hear one complaint, but you could also hear of 10,000 people that had no problem.
Nobody goes onto forums and says "well I had no problems with my camera today."
People only post when they have a problem! Don't let one person's experiences talk you out of buying anything.

I had no problems with the rapid grip for the 645e. And that price is not expensive for a camera grip.

I am in Northwest Arkansas. Do you mean Van Buren, AR instead of MO? This Saturday April 19 calls for a 60% chance of showers but don't let that discourage you. Our rains are usually short lasting and immediately after the sun will come out and the colors will pop and you'll get some beautiful shots. Have fun.

B&H has been out of them forever. Ok not forever, but for a long time. Apparently Nikon's marketing department dropped the price to $1699 and didn't bother telling their production department about it, and now people are ordering them like crazy but no one can get one. Just like Canon's 10D. Why do these companies annouce cameras and then don't make hardly any of them?
I ordered a D100 today from Adorama's website. It didn't say "not in stock" but it didn't say "in stock" either. They were happy to charge my card for one though!!!

I have an AFS 80-200 2.8 that is in excellent condition. I bought it last summer for $1600 and will sell it for $1000 incl. shipping. The AFS is not only a faster focusing lens but it's also a silent focusing lens. This was important for me becuase I was photographing wedding ceremonies with it and I didn't like to create a lot of noises with my equipment. Also the AFS will focus better than non AFS on digital bodies.

I was a photography workshop this weekend and two photogs had the 70-200 VR so they are out there somewhere. The difference was amazing just looking through the lens.

I have been ordering from B&H since 1997 and I ONLY order online now. Since most of their phone people don't speak English very well, I find it to my advantage to order online so that I get what I actually want. I can surf online at my leisure and order whatever I want. All the "accessories" for each item are listed separately for each item, so if you don't put them in your cart then they don't send it to you!

"It doesn't matter if there's a little piece of tail hanging out. Your photos won't be ruined. The first frame doesn't start from the beginning. Don't worry about it. If it's rewound, then take the film out."
I think you missed the whole point dude!

Steve votes twice for the 28. I would go wide angle also. I like to document the surroundings while on vacation.

How about a digital back for a Hassy? Best of both worlds?
As far as customers go I think it depends on what part of the country you are in and what other photogs in your city are doing. Im my town it's never been an issue. Customers associate "digital caleras" as point and shoots they buy at Wal-Mart. They don't know that there are pro digital bodies being used by pro photographers so it's never been an issue.
If I was you I wouldn't invest in film cameras especialy for studio portraits. Shoot it digitally, print them out proof pages on your Epson and let them pick which shots they want to buy as prints.

"If you are trying to expose the sharpest image possible...why the heck are you using either one?"
I second that. And the part about defeating the whole purpose....
-
I did have one - loved it - just wasn't using it enough to keep it so I sold it. You can't 'beat the price for a MF camera and lens, especially the kit with the rapid wind grip.

Why are you all freaking out? Good websites always update their look. You change your underwear don't you?
-
I'd buy the Sigma versions: 20 1.8, 24 1.8, or 28 1.8 You could buy three or four for the price of one Nikon.

N80. Much newer and better metering.
-
Your thinking is correct. Don't do what I did and buy an entry level camera. As my skills progressed I wanted an higher end camera, and I moved up several times. In the end I could have spent the same amount on the best camera to start with.
There's nothing the Nikon N80 won't do for recreational photography.
Traveling to Guatemala

Thank you for posting this and for the info also. I'm making my first trip to Guatemala in January 04. I am going with my father in law who is from there, so he will act as my guide.
I'm taking one digital SLR with me however I am going to a local import store and buying a mexican imported backback... something that looks like junk and then keep my camera in there.
I have been warned to stay out of town at night. People drive without lights, run people off the road, are drunk (just like any big city) but (I've been told) the roads there are not maintained like in the USA and driving at night can be hazordous.
Thanks again for posting this question and for all the great information.
