Adam, Half Dome from Galcier Point with a D70 and 18-70DX. I really ahve always liked this lens

Adam,
I just got back from a trip to Yosemite with my D70 and 18-70 lens and 70-300g and was very happy with the results. My friend used his D80 with the 18-55 and his shots came out great. I can tell you that I am currently saving for the 18-200VR.

Great info... Thanks

Thanks David,
It is on our to do list.
Any reason you think the moderator of travel moved this to the nature thread?

Hi All,
We are leaving on Sunday for a trip starting in San Francisco and going
directly to Sonoma for two days. (Particularly GlenElly?.) From there it is to
Yosemite for two days and then to Lake Tahoe. We end the trip with a day back
in San Fran. I have searched the photo.net forum and, of course, have the
obligatory books and magazines but is there any specific things I can watch out
for? Thanks again, Mike

I have checked Nikon's web site and they show no update on firmware at this time. Hope this link works!

Al, I hope I am not asking you a dumb question. Have you tried it with a different lens? I had a similar problem with my D70 and it was the 18-70 kit lens that was the culprit. I ended up having repaired. -
I echo Michael S. If your camera was an early edition it could be BGLOD. Nikon fixed mine free of charge AND fast.
-
You may also want to download a free version of Nikon View. I find it easy for quick fixes and much better than Picture Project although not as good as Capture.

Is the lens beyond repair?
-
Jean,
I used my 18-70 kit lens with D70 for my trip to the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion. I felt that was sufficient for me. I would have loved the 18-200 but it was a little out of my price range and I did have a 70-300 with me as well.

I agree with Bjorn in not understanding why you wish to put adjusted pictures back in to your camera or maybe I am not understanding your question. If you want to move the pictures somewhere else put them on a jump drive not back on to the cf card. Jump drives are cheap an easier.

William,
There is a wealth of information on this site. Just type d80 lens choice in the search box upper right hand corner and you will get a lot of information. The 18-70 is a great kit lens. I use it with my D70.

Just an update from my previous post. I recieved my D70 back yesterday fixed with the cleaning and new firmware. less than two weeks. I really do like this camera.

Rich,
I have a D70 that I just sent to Nikon for the BGLOD issue. They are fixing it for free. It was one of the early issue cameras that were affected. Whether they cover the issue on a second party sale I do not know but I do know they are standing behind the repair for mine. As far as the software any of the above advice works for me.

I have used B&H for new and KEH for used and have been more than pleased. I also purchased a lens from Cameta camera through EBAY and did not have any problems.
-
I have also used the sensor swabs from Eclipse and they have worked just fine.
-
I have used the pec pads and eclipse and it has worked very well. I always carry it with me in my bag.
-
My D70 came with Picture Perfect which reads NEF. I use PS and Nikon Capture but the Picture Perfect will assist you until you make a decision.

Matt,
I have the D70 and 70-300G and I like it. The picture below of the Colorado River was taken from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.I also have the 28-200 F3.5 5.6G which is a nice all arund lens.
Below taken with 70-300G
