I have the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 and have compared it with the Canon L USM and the Tamron 28-75 Di. I actually bought it AFTER comparing these lenses. I am surprised to hear of the Sigma-bashing on this post because I have found this Sigma lens to be better than the Tamron (and this was confirmed in the recent Practical Photography June 2004 issue), and comparable to the "L" lens of Canon. Would I ever pay $1100 versus $340 given the choice? No, not me, and not after seeing the results. Indeed the Canon glass is excellent and the results are proof; but the Sigma holds its own and for 70% less. I'd also recommend Pop Photo's testing of this Sigma lens at: http://popphoto.com/article.asp?section_id=2&article_id=646&page_number=1
Sigma has a gem in this one. [fStopJojo@yahoo.com]
