Hi everyone,
I'm moving to LA shortly from the UK and need to find out about good
photographic labs to process films in Los Angeles. I normally provide
my clients with 20-25 rolls of film (35mm) and over here in London I
use a good lab who have a very affordable mini-lab service. Any
ideas, anyone? I don't want to spend more than $13-$14 for process
and print of one roll. Having said that, I have no idea how much
things are in the States. Also any ideas where I can get the cheapest
film from? Preferably Fuji Superia? Any suggestions, much appreciated.

I have held onto my negs up until now but have recently decided to hold onto negs for two years and then I give them to the clients. This way, I get to make money out of the re-prints during the timeframe the clients are most likely to want them and I don't clutter my house with unwanted folders. I hope this system will work!

I am shortly going to be moving to Los Angeles from the UK and I'd
like to find out about ways of launching myself as a wedding
photographer. My work is usually by word of mouth but obviously my
contacts in a new country will be limited. Does anyone have any
advice on advertising? Any suggestions for the best wedding/bridal
magazines? Also, does anyone know if there are any agencies that
represent wedding photographers in the California region? Thanks.

If you're doing 'documentary' style shots, try and get in every guest. There's nothing worse than missing out someone just because they don't look interesting to photograph (!) - if you don't know who they are, make sure you've shot them at least once to be safe. I try and use as much natural and available light as possible when photographing in color. When light is low, I switch to black and white. I find this to have a better effect just because I don't like using flash with color. I always use two cameras, one with black and white and one with color film. Be discrete, as much in the background as you can be. People always appreciate that. But finally and most importantly, have fun, enjoy it, and do what comes naturally to you. Good luck. Parisa

I'm looking for a good darkroom in Los Angeles where the public/members
can go and print their own color photographs? Any suggestions? Thanks,
