I'm in need of a database software for tracking customer addresses, emails,
phone #s, actions taken with customers (invoices sent, ty note sent, etc).
I'm not very talented or knowledgeable with data bases, so I'm hoping to find
something that is layperson friendly and not a steep learning curve.
I'm interested in knowing what people have used and like/dislike, what it does
for them, how they learned the software.
I'm a pro portrait, event and real estate photographer.
So far I've just been keeping customer data in paper files, but I need to
start doing customer newsletters, track what I've sent whom, have one spot for
mailing/phone data, etc.
Thanks

I looked at bigfolio, livebooks and others. Livebooks had the best service, nicest looking templates, higher prices. I ended up going with a bricks and mortar store for more money because it was clear that with a template based solution I was going to continually run into "we can't do that with our template" responses when I raised design ideas. Also, if you want to look unique, have your website branded with your bzness card, stationary, etc, a template doesn't make you stand out from the crowd.
If you can't swing a custom designed website in terms of cost, then I'd go with Livebooks. Jon Lucich in SF was excellent in answering a ton of questions quickly for me there.
If you do want to investigate the cost and options of a custom site, contact Lisa or Michael at goldfishnetwork.com. They are doing my site now.

I'm using Kodak Microdol film developer for the first time. There's
quite a variance for the development times listed on the product bag
versus digitaltruth.com's development sheet.
The product bag says Plus X is 5.5 min and Tmax is 7 min, while
digitaltruth says 8 mins and 11.5 min respectively.
I'm also hoping to use Microdol with Agfa APX100, Fuji Acros 100 and
FP4 Ilford.
Any experience out there with best times for Microdol and any of
these films?
Thanks

Thanks for this helpful info. The only monitor profile listed is Adobe RGB 1998. That's great for working with PS CS, as you note, but it tells me that my calibration isn't "saving" and acting as the default monitor profile. Now I just have to figure out how to save it and get it to show on the list/location you cite so I can select it.

I have some complicated problems with my p.c. operations that
require my hiring someone in the San Francisco area with proven
experience in improving the speed of Photoshop CS operations and
assuring correct calibration of monitors using Colorvision Spyder
equipment. I?ve had a couple people work on my pcs and fix the
basic stuff over the past couple years, but problems with slow
Photoshop operations and calibration operations were beyond their
capabilities. I don?t want to repeat those experiences where half
of my needs went unresolved, so you?ll see below my detailed
expectations.
I am just beginning my own photography business out of my home.
Two of my biggest problems are PS CS slow operations, even though I
have 1 gb RAM and 240 gb hard drive space, mostly unused. THe other
has to do with assuring my Colorvision Spyder calibration efforts
are "saved" within the computer and used by photoshop as the default
color calibration.
I apologize for being so particular, but I?m beyond the point where
the average IT repairperson can help, based on recent experience
with other IT repairpersons. An ideal person would have an IT and
digital photography background.
I appreciate your consideration of my needs.

What's your most successful B&W film for portraiture on location or
in the studio and why? I'm talking strictly for shooting people.
What do you develop it with?
Thanks

What's the best B&W film and developer for portraits taken with at
most flash on location and why? I'm traveling to Syria May 21 and
plan to shoot a lot of location portraiture, some in B&W. I'm not
interested in the C41 films, and haven't been overwhelmed by Tri-X
for portraiture.
Thanks!

Has anyone had any luck getting film handchecked at Heathrow? I"m
leaving May 21, 04 for Syria, with a night coming and going in
London via Heathrow. Past experience has been rejection of any film
handcheck at this airport, and I'm looking for any tips or advice on
ways to secure handcheckes. I want to take ASA 1600 film on this
trip..
THanks

Millers vs. WHCC

Interesting no one mentions Bay Photo here, which I haven't tried. Haven't used Millers, have been very happy with WHCC. If you get their press printed products, you MUST get the UV coating or they will look very flat.
