Thank you, Julio.

This colorful thermal area was brightly sunlit, and would normally be
a very bright, but I have pulled the exposure down substantially to
give a darker presentation of tones. Comments welcome. --Joe

This one has better, more natural color balance that the previous shot
of this site. Comments welcome.

Thanks you, Aivar. I remember the green of the algae being brighter, and was the main subject that I was trying to photograph. But none of the shots I have show this green the way I saw it. The only choice I had was to let the water dominate the image as the main subject with the green playing a supporting role.

Thinking about doing a series on vintage county courthouses in Texas...

Jim and Marcos, thanks for your kind comments. I had no choice but to use a long shutter speed for these night shots. But I was hoping to capture a sense of motion with it. The river walk was very crowded that night because the Spurs were playing in town in the NBA semifinals. As it turns out, 20 seconds was a bit much; the people walking by were reduced to just a smear. I will try a little faster next time. --Joe

Scott, thanks for commenting. Yes, it is too busy. When I took the picture, I wanted to convey the dark, damp forest floor -- but this image clearly misses. As I said above, I worked it up anyway as a practice in controlling the tone and saturation to soften some of the detail while still being sharply focused. I will try this technique on a better shots soon. -- Joe

Jason, this is a great shot because of the story the hands tell -- the adult hands guiding the young hands cradling the fragile bird. The marvelous use of the hands deserves a 7 for originality. The Supporting features of this image are the composition with the adult fingers leading the eye to the bird, excellent framing of the event, and natural hues. The soft lighting is good. The DOF is good although the focus is slightly soft on the bird and it would be better if you blurred the background further. Nevertheless, this shot is truly outstanding just as it is. Congratulations. --Joe

The most remarkable aspect of this image is the way you placed the foreground rocks. The V shape is unusual, creative, and effective. Another interesting aspect of this image is the clouds covering the top of the mountain -- that is a very nice effect. Also worth mentioning is the fine detail overall, and especially the road the winds up the mountainside to the left. The only problem I see is that the highlights on the mountain side are a bit too bright. Congratulations. --Joe

Maria, it is the composition that makes this worthy of hanging on a wall. The transition of the diagonal lines is well placed, and the patch of darker woods curves nicely into the image. The haziness of the distant hill is not ideal, but it does help give the image depth, so it is acceptable. As Vrindavan said, the noise level on the distant hill is a little distracting, so it would be worthwhile to try noise reduction. All things considered, this one is very good. Congratulations. --Joe

I have given this image softer hues and tones to give it more of a
relaxing, serene mood in spite of the busy detail in it. The effect is
somewhat overdone, I suspect, but it is an experiment, and I wanted
the effect to be sufficient to be judged. I would like your opinion. --Joe
