1.
Douglas, I have no major complaints about my D800 and the only interesting improvement for my amateur stuff would be the lower vibration shutter...but the familiar is more compelling than the unknown and with the recent price drop, I could be very happy with a D800e as a second body.

  2.
New D800e's can now be bought here in the US for $3100 to $3200 - not a big savings but for someone who is happy with and/or accustomed to the D800/D800e, it's an opportunity to pick up a second body, etc.

  3.
At a local camera store here in the US, I inquired about the possibility of a future D800 & D800e price reduction; the manager informed me that according to Nikon USA, the current pricing would not change for another 6 weeks. The Nikon Americas website only has refurbished D800 bodies in stock, no D800e.

  4.
Andrew, thank you for explaining the writing delay after long exposures; it never occurred to me to disable the long exposure NR. Although I have enough accumulated in my Amazon "reserve" to purchase a second DSLR now, it is wiser to wait for reviews based on actual usage before deciding on the previous or the new model.

  5.
Still no price drop here for the D800/D800e...I never use live-view but after a 15 second exposure, with a 60mbs CF card there is a delay in writing the file.

  6.
Only the potential improvement of the shutter/mirror assembly has my interest but I will wait until the smoke clears. At least for now I can stop obsessing about when the D800e price (for new) will drop.

This is a beautiful macro shot!
  8.
Shun,BeBu, Mike, thank you for advice - the D800 is my all-time favorite Nikon but I will wait for now.

  9.
Shun Cheung, please let us know, where is the D800 selling for $2700? The lowest legitimate price I have found lately is higher than hat I paid one & two years ago, closer to $ 2997 (US).

  10.
I am leery of "demo" cameras and totally avoid discounted "open box" DSLR's (e.g. dis-PLAY) that have high mileage and have been abused by unscrupulous customers and store employees. I can understand how a buyer might be tempted to buy such items, I would like a second D800 camera body also. The price increase of $200 for a new D800 is disappointing; maybe this DSLR has been very popular and its production limited so that there is no need to discount to clear out stock.
