Has anyone tried the 'multi-exposure' feature of Silverfast 6.5 scan software
yet?
If so how much improvement was there in the shadow areas compared to a single
pass scan?
Thanks

I know MIS is more known for selling continuous flow systems, but I wondered
if anyone has tried their $5 aftermarket cartridges for Canon (BCI-6 type
cartridge)?
Is it the same ink they use in their CIS that seems to have good reviews?
Any thoughts/comments/reviews appreciated.
Cheers

Hi All
I've got some bulk printing to do and would like to use some 3rd party inks
rather than expensive OEM carts.
Can anyone recommend good 3rd party cartridges for the Canon IP8500 (BCI6 type
cartridges)?
Any info on cloging, colour gamut etc would also be helpful.
Many Thanks

Does anyone know which Contax cable release/switch I need for a 139Q?

yeah, banding all the way across the frame even in the sprocket area.
Doesn't look 100% consistent to me though, I thought a light leak would produce the exact same pattern every time.
Anyhow, I think I'll spend a few dollars on a replacement light seal kit. Can't hurt.

Hi All
I'd sure like your opinions on this one.
I shot my first rolls of Ilford XP2 this weekend in a newly acquired Contax
139.
I used my regular lab which has been great for E6.
There's some really bad banding on the XP2 negatives and I'm not sure what
caused it.
So, I'd like your opinion on whether this could caused by light leaking in the
camera or by a processing problem.
neg scans to follow.

There are several Zeiss 50mm/1.7 Planar's available at Ffordes (www.ffordes.com) Go to the 'used' section, then contax/yashica/SLR lenses

The link is ok, just need to select '28mm i test' in the blue menu bar at the bottom of the page.
Thanks

For more info on 28mm lenses, see this very detailed lens test with Canon, Tamron, Nikon, Leica and Zeiss lenses.

Another point in the Zeiss/Contax V Canon issue is useability.
The canon 50/1.8Mk11 has a really nasty manual focus ring, difficult to use, whereas the Contax has a really nice smooth focus ring and is a plesure to use.
If you're serious about landscapes, then you'll probably want to focus manually.
-
For the 50mm at f8-f11 either the cheapo 1.8mkII or if you want to go down to road of lens adapters the also cheap Contax Zeiss 50mm/1.7 Planar - widely reputed to one of the very best 50mm's.
-
The 28/2.8 is a fine lens when stopped down a few stops, at f8-f11 it's great.
This image was taken with the 28/2.8 on an EOS3 at f8 with Velvia 100.

Hi All
I want to change back from an EC-B screen to EC-CIII as the later seems to
have more bite and is better for manaul focusing.
However, my EC-CIII is scratched and needs replacement.
I've seens them listed at B&H which says it's EOS3 compatible
but Speedgraphic (leading UK retailer) says the EC-CIII is for IV, 1D, 1D/2
and not for 1, 1N or 3 in which case EC-CII should be used.
Anyone confirm which is accurate?

OK just 2 questions:
1: Has anyone tried the Fotodiox Pro angle finder?
2: If I use Angle Finder 'C' at 1.25X magnification do I see the
hole image on a film body or it is cropped due to the magnification?
Thanks

Is this any better?
-
hmmm
Still looks oversaturated.
Looks ok in Photoshop. Maybe an issue with Adobe98 to sRGB conversion.
-
I just re-scanned with silverfast and here is the result.
No tweaks in photoshop apart from cloning out seagulls (unavoidable in Cornwall)
Zoomed right into pixel level, the shadow detail matches the velvia 100 slide. It was a very contrasty subject with direct lighting.

Sorry, should have mentioned this.
I'm scanning 35mm slides (mainly Velvia)
The Silverfast files looks more like the original in terms of colour balance, contrast and the velvia punchiness.
I'm sure there are some expert users who can get the same result with Vuescan, but I've been using it for about 2-3 years and I thought it was good........until I tried Silverfast (and I've only used that for 2 days !)

Hi
The scanner is not calibrated in either software. Some time ago I used an IT8 target from Wolf Faust but I didn't find the calibration in Vuescan very good. I may decide to re-try a new IT8 target with Silverfast.
Using Adobe98 output in both programs (converted to sRGB for web upload)
Using 16bit/per channel colour on both programs.
Vuescan is 83.37, Silverfast is 6.4.3r9

Thanks Scott, great info there.
I'm also using a coolscan 5 (LS50) and is has done a sterling job so far. I was tempted by the lasersoft blurb which states a significant increase in dynamic range.
I was interested more in extracting more detail in the shadow areas, and agree that the coolscan is supurb with regard to noise.
Thanks for the info.
