dedicated MLU mode is new...as is the catch on the dial - I was wrong about the catch focus thingy...I'm sure my K10D doesn't do it...I believe the EV comp working as meter bias in manual mode is new too - what I get from that is that you can program the green button in manual to points other than the program line...

Guys, I Personally doubt the shift will go more than 2-3mm. I do think this is an interesting start-point though I doubt we'll be getting APS-C digital view cameras any time soon!

-

Robin, if any/all the AF lenses you are talking about have AF/MF switches, it would work a dream - but that is only a half-solution.

-

PS - I'm a left-eye shooter, and never have had problems on my K100DS and I've just spent the last few seconds looking like an idiot pressing the K10D buttons into my face and it's amazing just how many of them weren't pressed at all.

-

that's correct Bethe, you can still use the old lenses at any aperture

-

Amazing isn't it Mis, it's almost as though they've thought about what people wanted and given it to them.

I never thought I'd see that from Pentax! :-)

-

I already linked to it Lindy, but I don't blame you for repeating at all - it's an exciting camera!

-

The data rate is 2x the 5D MkII.

-

AF adjust is back in too...

-

...again, custom menu...

35. Catch-in focus 1: On 2: Off Shutter releases when subject passes pre-set focus distance (AF.S mode/lenses with MF modes only)

...if I'm not mistaken, that's new too? I certainly don't have it on my K10D - automating trap-focus is a nice idea, and great for all the MF lens people out there who get peeved by the APS-C finder - my first query is how well will it work if I hold down the shutter release on an OOF candid portrait, rotate the focus barrel and the shutter snaps when it's in focus. It wouldn't be first choice, but it might work well enough for grab-shots...

-

From the custom menu...

18. Slow Shutter Speed NR 1: Auto
2: Standard

...that could be bad if it's in the production cameras...disabling dark frame subtraction would be a good thing to put back in...

from page 7, it looks like a dedicated MLU mode is in too...

http://www.dpreview.com/previews/pentaxk7/
most of the big stuff is out now, but here are a couple of nuggets I found...
on page 6, there is a short blurb about what the EV compensation button does in manual mode...

"In manual mode it biases the meter, rather than making any change to the chosen exposure. This bias is then interpreted as exposure compensation if you switch to other modes, rather than just giving a misleading meter reading."

...this means wonderful things for users of the green button.

there is also now a latch on the mode dial, so you can't knock between modes by mistake.

ooh...

guys, look at the photos in this thread...

http://www.pentax-fans.com/blog/?p=118

in one of the photos half way down you see the LCD on the back with a +- 5(!) stops meter readout. I hope that's real, if so yhat's going to put a smile on my face at least!

Also the 50-200 WR makes me wonder if we can really expect WR ltds and other lenses? I know the 50-200 is the 'other' kit lens, but I have dreams that if they seal their cheapest lenses it just makes sense to seal the rest too...

the slow shutter speed NR is switchable again too...as are very nice custom settings on the same photo that shows that to do with fine tuning what kind of NR the camera does...

Have a look at those images!

Bill, no-one really knows how creditable RiceHigh is. Many people have STRONG opinions about him.

Wait for the 21st and the official specs.

-

good catch, Paul!

As for the rest of the machine, we'll all have to wait and see.
Pentax were never going to please everyone!

-

apparently RiceHigh's specs may be innacurate anyway, so I'm going to calm myself down again and wait for the 21st, like a good Pentaxian!

-

the "me too" camera?
I really think you're missing the point - what have we been realistically waiting for that Pentax hasn't delivered?
Don't forget that it...
1. Is bY FAR the smallest camera in that class (with a sensor bigger than 4/3 size)!
2. Has the FIRST EVER weather sealed kit lens!
3. Has an AF button on the grip! - massive gripe for many!
4. The grip will take AA's as well as your rechargable, on top of the new higher-spec battery!
5. Comes with 5fps in RAW!
6. Magnesium Alloy shell!
7. 100% viewfinder coverage!
8. 1/8000 shutter!

OK, Pentax have not given people everything that their dream camera might contain, on the other hand, they have given us A LOT. And it's not just HD video. I have not even mentioned the exposure and AF improvements, or the in-camera HDR because they have not been tested yet, but I think you are being manifestly unfair Renato.

Hours of falling snow in not-quite-frozen conditions, meaning moisture everywhere. Various other rainy times since. The K10D is still working now. If it gets very wet, I open all the seals and let it dry properly - but I don't know if that's really necessary.

-

I think that for the first time a camera company might sell more of the kit lens than the camera!

That sounds like a typical Pentax first to me :-)

-

Starvy, this is a genuine model - due to be announced later this month...people are guessing in the stores in July-August.
Tom, there's no mention in anything I've read of a SR switch on this body - but who knows what custom settings might give you.

Mis, I believe the larger body is in fact real. The grip has retractable legs (switchable to tracks for rough terrain - they're making it modular, just like the LX).
On a more serious note, I'm not sure - but I believe that shot of the back of the camera has been at least partially discredited by some person on PentaxForums who may know nothing. All sorts of stuff has been bandied about about the presumed specs of this camera, but we're close enough now to announcement date that the time of hard details will surely soon arrive, and I look foward to seeing what early adopters have to say about it before I do any pouncing...I have my K10D held close to my chest, and if Javiers is anything to go by, I have at least 20,000 actuations to go!

...that said, if it really did do the dishes, it might sway me...

-

the image fits perfectly everything else I've seen and read about the K-7. You are looking at the K-7 with it's kit lens DA18-55 AL WR. WR for water/weather resistant.

If it's half as good as the hype, it'll do the dishes at the same time as taking 100 fps RAW images @ 50MP.

-

...Jemal, I would love to give the ZX-M a go...if you have any interest in trying out a Vivitar 19mm f/3.8 I could throw it your way in return...same request about passing it on when you're done applying...

-

yikes! well, to be honest it takes a decent photo and is unique - a it of a collecters piece, but if you enjoy shooting it then that's gotta be cool. I bet there is a way of rigging up the old-style trigger to a new cable release, if you had the Pentax AF TC and a jerry-rigged cable release, you could have AF on half-way press switched on and it could be a pretty snappy rig?
