You get what you pay for.
After six months it is safe to say that the images are probably horrific and he doesn't want
to show them to you. Or he was doing something wrong, and the images don't even exist.
No lab anywhere takes that long. He could have shipped them half way around the world
via camel express and he would have had them back.
I'm truly sorry that you are going through this.
Please send a copy of your story to stephi@fireyourweddingplanner.com and let her know
your experience.

The esitmated color temps for tungsten are at full power. Almost always, the lights will be
dimmed. Dimming from full power substantially reduces the color temprature to the point
that even a full CTO gelled flash will be much cooler than the ambinet illumination,
although having the ambient warmer can look nice.

I think the digital advice is good. It's really easy for someone who has shoot film for years
to scoff at this advice, but this is an amateur trying to do the best they can in an
unfamiliar situation.
With digital, they at least aren't going to find out later(too late) they were doing something
horribly wrong.
Also, machine gunning is a perfectly valid way of shooting, especially for someone with
little experience. I would personally recommend shooting even more than recomended.
The only advice I would add for an amateur is to take a checklist/cheat sheet to review
many times during the day, it's way too easy to forget things when you don't shoot
wedings all the time.

For weddings, size and speed of set-up are more important than power. That being said,
I've never needed more than 300ws, which even in an 8ft Octobank gives you about f8 at
shooting distance.
Not having to run AC power is definitely the best bet as it saves set-up/tear down time,
and stops guests from tripping/un-plugging your strobe.

Because Canon doesn't make a 28 1.4 L

I have one and love it. I have no complaints at all.
It's one of the have to have lenses for me shooting various events.
Built great, fast AF, great color rendition and contrast, don't hesitate to own one.

" But. What do you do when they want 30 groupings in a time frame that doesn't
realistically allow it?"
Well, that's when you just have to tell them that it's unrealistic. Learning to 'Manage your
clients expectations' is a delicate skill. We let people know all the things that tend to go
wrong, and that trying to shoot an unrealistic number of shots will compromise the quality
of the shots.
Make a list of the things that have caused problems in the past, and just talk to the client
about them. If they are reasonable, they''ll get it. If they are un-reasonable, you have
bigger problems.
-
I don't know how much pre-wedding planning you go through with your clients, but we
manage the time problem by establishing a formals shot list before the wedding. It's
during this planning that we can tell the B&G how much time it will take, and let them
decide if that's time they want to spend.
We have had plenty of people who then allocated a few hours for shooting, and others that
cut the number of formals way back to fit in a certain amount of time. If you take this
approach, the client feels like they are in control, and you won't be pulling your hair out on
the wedding day. (At least not because of this issue.)
-
We encourage all of our local competition to limit the number of formals they will 'allow'
the bride and groom to take.
Meanwhile, although formals are rarely the most important part of the day for our clients,
we let the B&G decide how many they would like, and give them a guidline as to how much
time it will take. We average around 30 different groupings.
We are also PJ shooters, with the formals comprising 98% of the posed shots for the day.

If $149 makes you broke, I think you should re-evaluate your pricing.

With digital, it's much easier to de-fog or warm-up an image better than a filter can do,
and it's far less work than trying to clone out the flare that can pop in from a filter.
Regardless of how many mutiple coats in the MRC, it's still a big flat piece of glass.
The front element of L glass isn't that fragile and will be fine as long as you have a hood
on and aren't a complete clutz.
I never use a filter for protection, only when I need the filter, which with digital is pretty
rare.

Yes, it's a far better solution than backing up on site. The chances of losing images on
both cards are almost nil.
-
Look at CF database on robgalbraith.com and look at the various cards. I've found that
that 40x/80x cards don't make that much difference with our cameras (1DmkII). The
SanDisk UltraII was the best price/performance ratio.
But, if all you shoot are weddings and your buffer is pretty good, even a slow card could
be fine. With the buffer on the 1D mkII, we can shoot even old, crappy 1x cards without
any issue. When you switch to sports, it can be an issue.
For just weddings, I'd rather have 4 4x cards than 2 40x cards.

I only buy grey, and Canon has and will honor the warranty, and will repair it in our out of
waranty.

The 50 AF is such a POS I don't trust it for anything moving faster than a walk. The 85 has
a real USM and is a far better choice for sports.

Get the 135/f2

The 1 series does lack this feature and I agree it seems silly.
However, I just use the ST-E2. It flashes, but with no active slaves, it doesn't matter.
Ambient exposure is metered independantly from flash exposure, so having a ST-E2 fire
will have no effect on ambient exposure at all.
I use the ST-E2 regularly with no flash (in AV mode) just for the AF assist.

In Atlanta, September 24th and October 8th seem to be this years hot dates. Last year was
September 25th, which we had booked in February, and had 32 inquiries about that date
after we had booked it.
Neither Georgia nor Georgia Tech were playing that weekend.

<b><i> The Dyna-Lite Jackrabbit is a high voltage battery. However, like the smaller
Quantum Turbo Z it lacks both the all-day shooting power and instantaneous recycling
times of a Quantum Turbo.</i></b>
<br><br>
I shoot 3-4 events per week and 50+ weddings year. Unless you're shooting at F8 in a
blacked out cave, the JackRabbit will keep up with any wedding. I've used JackRabbits in
far more demanding shooting situations than weddings, and I'm never waiting for the
flash, including motor drive exposures, and I've never run my JackRabbits dry. That
includes 1800+ exposure events, and running two flashes off the same JackRabbit.
<br><br>
The Quantum is too big, too bulky, too heavy, and more importantly, too awkwardly
shaped. Unless you're parking your batteries on a lightstand, JackRabbits are so
infinitely superior to Quantums, that I'm fully convinced that the only people who like the
Quantums are people who have never used a JackRabbit, or have a personal Sherpa
carrying the Quantum for them all day.
-
Quantums are great if you don't mind strapping a brick to your waist. JackRabbit's will give
you the same performance in a package that will fit in a belt system.
I can't imagine anybody choosing a Quantum over a JackRabbit if they have seen/held/
carried/used both batteries.

<p><i><b> Have you received any albums back from Forbeyon.com?</b></i></p>
<p>That's funny. Given that he just got his design proofs, it will be a while.</
p>
<p>We have done two Forbeyons with our own designs. The cover styles are
very appealing, and really stand out during a metting.</p>
<p>As a company the customer service is very good and they are quite
helpful.</p>
<p>The quality isn't perfect with our limited experience. The first album we
recieved had the front metal cover image frame scratched, one of the pages wasn't fully
laminated on the bottom, and the lower covers of the front albums pages were slightly
bent.</p>
<p>The client only noticed the un-lamninated photo so it wasn't an issue, and
Forbeyon also said they would fix anything else the client wanted repaired.</p>
<p>Also, our album was shipped via the postal service in a not very well fitting
box with inadaquate bubble wrap. The mail person also left the box on our front stairs.
Fortunately, it didn't rain.</p>
<p>Compared to the pristine perfect quality that GraphiStudios show up in,
Forbeyon is lacking.</p>
<p>As to turn-around, it's sort of a crap shoot. Our first album arrived fairly
quickly. Our second one, not so much. Forbeyon and BonMatch both use the same
manufacturer in Korea. Our second album shipped from the manufacturer on January
26th.</p>
<p>We still don't have it. </p>
<p>I'm pretty sure it was sent Camel Express, same year delivery.</p>
<p>For comparison, we sent in a GraphiStudio order at the same time as the
Forbeyon, and received the Graphi last week. It's pretty sad when Graphi is beating your
turn-around times.</p>
<p>Forbeyon has a beautiful product and good customer service, so I just hope
the quality and turn around issues are addressed.</p>

The 50 is a complete POS. It's amazing how pathetic this lens is.
I'm still praying for a 50mm f/1.2 L

I'm just a bill,<br>
Yes, I'm only a bill,<br>
And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill.<br>
Well, it's a long, long journey<br>
To the capital city,<br>
It's a long, long wait<br>
While I'm sitting in committee,<br>
But I know I'll be a law someday...<br>
At least I hope and pray that I will,<br>
But today I'm still just a bill.<br>
<br>
I'm just a bill,<br>
Yes I'm only a bill,<br>
And I got as far as Capitol Hill.<br>
Well now I'm stuck in committee<br>
And I sit here and wait <br>
While a few key congressmen<br>
Discuss and debate<br>
Whether they should <br>
Let me be a law...<br>
Oh how I hope and pray that they will,<br>
But today I am still just a bill.<br>
<br>
debate about you?<br>
"Die?"<br>
If they vote "yes", what happens?<br>
<br>
I'm just a bill,<br>
Yes I'm only a bill,<br>
And if they vote for me on Capitol Hill,<br>
Well then I'm off to the White House<br>
Where I'll wait in a line<br>
With a lot of other bills<br>
For the President to sign.<br>
And if he signs me then I'll be a law...<br>
Oh, how I hope and pray that he will,<br>
But today I am still just a bill.<br>
<br>
President can still say no?<br>
not easy to become a law, is it?<br>
<br>
No! But how I hope and I pray that I will,<br>
But today I am still just a bill!
