Office Depot here in Kalamazoo has the same deal.....a ream of paper for a used cartridge... over time I have roughly a case of paper now. Better than tossing them. At least you get something back. I figure I can sell the paper for a buck or two a ream at a garage sale.

Erick,
If you are interested in seeing what kinds of cameras take what kinds of pictures, try some of the photo galleries in the various photo forums. It's a great way to find out the things you can do with the particular make of camera you are interested in. Besides this one, I recommend Betterphoto.com, which enables you to view pictures taken with specific brands of cameras.
Hope this helps.

I'm looking to purchase a monopod and need advice as to the best buy
for under $60. Which brand is best? Thanks in advance.

anyone know where I can get some covers for my digital camera's
(HP850)lcd screen to prevent scratches, dirt etc? They are the little
filmy pieces that peel off the screen if I'm making myself clear.

Anyone got any opinion about the best free slideshow software
available out there? I'd like to be able to create some for viewing
my pictures. I'd also like to be able to put the software on cd to
assist a buddy when I burn copies of pictures for him.

I gave up using my S20 with Winxp and put it back with my Win98 system where it works fine (my second scanner on that system is the HP 5100c). My problem was that my imaging software stopped recognizing the S20 after about 3 scans. That was with updated drivers etc...I may go back and try it again later using it as the only usb scanning device (I have the Hp 3970 scanjet flatbed with the xp system)...but I digress. It appears that there isn't any way to run both scanners with XP. As for cleaning, what you are doing sounds normal..I don't usually scan photos with the S20, so I'm not familiar with that error message. Just curious, but how many times have you done the uninstall/install boogie? I was wondering, because maybe the last time you switched scanners, the S20 calibration went south.
The whole S20/Xp experience has really left a sour taste in my mouth. My XP system is my digital darkroom, so now I have to scan negatives downstairs on the WIN98 system, then burn a cd and load it up on my XP system....a real pain if you know what I mean. In case you're wondering....you aren't the lone ranger with your problem....check out the rest of the forum and you'll find my problem along with others. You can check out other computer tech forums and find others out there with the same HP S20 problems....
That's my 2 bits worth. Hope I helped a little.

Fazal you are correct in the fact that cost-wise it can get prohibitive, but oh boy, it's the FUN of it that makes doing it yourself the joy. And isn't that the whole point for us do-it-yourself'ers?

I finally gave up and moved the S20 back to my Win98 system, and it's ok here....I do have an HP5100c on this system as well, and there doesn't seem to be any conflict at all..I suppose I might try taking it back to the Xp system for another go around at a later date, but for now I just want to see how it's working on this one.

Bill,
What program are you scanning your images to? Photoshop, Paintshop, Ulead, etc.?
-
You're right Bruce, I also have other USB's that operate fine with XP.
John, while I hesitate to go out and get another film scanner, I can always just plug the S20 back into my older (Win98) system, where it worked before. I wonder if HP has had any other complaints about this particular problem. The tech support I got from them gave me no indication that it had. They had me do the uninstall/reinstall boogie several times to no avail.

Thanks Mark and Bruce,
If you're having the same kind of problem Bruce, then perhaps it can be narrowed down to the S20 software compatibility within XP. I'd be interested to find out if this problem exists with the communication with other third party software. If so, then it tends to point in the direction of the S20 or XP.

I'm a newbie on this site/forum, and I'm not sure if this is the
right one for this question, so please bear with me.
Running Win XP Home on a Gateway 310S with 2.6 GB processor, 256 MB
ram, 40 GB hd ......computer is about 3 weeks old
peripherals hooked up:
HP S20 Photosmart film scanner
HP 3970 Scanjet flatbed
Hp 850 Digital camera
HP 7350 Photosmart printer
Having trouble with my HP Photosmart S20 scanner (drivers upgraded to
Xp v1.7) and MS Digital Image Pro 9 software communication. After a
couple or three scans, the DIP9 loses communication with the
Scanner...device mgr indicates scanner is working properly, but I get
the "S20 not recognized" or "a version of S20 software is already
running" from the DIP9 program....
Trying to use the S20 as a stand-alone after exiting DIP9, the
scanner software doesn't even open....sometimes it works after a re-
boot...sometimes not.
I've done the un-install/re-install dance (drivers and software)
about 30 times since last Thursday (when the problem cropped up). HP
has tried to help and I've followed their advice, but no joy.
Ran the XP error log and got this:
1. faulting application hpi_cntr.exe, faulting module hpi_sui.dll
2. The application, C:\Progra~1\HPPHOT~1\S20SCA~1\Hpi_Cntr.exe
generated an application error. exception generated was (Hpi_Sui!
CTaskTwainInterface_CTaskTwainInterface)
3. also got one for (Hpi_Cntr!Thistogram_set)
I must add that after re-boots, the S20/DIP9 work together for
another 2-3 scans then blooey again.
The S20 and DIP9 worked fine on Win98 and I'm thinking of removing it
from my digital darkroom and putting it back on this system. My
digital darkroom is NOT repeat NOT hooked up to the internet so there
are no virus/spyware issues.
all other periphs are working (ok, I haven't tried the digital camera
usb connection yet.)
Ive gone to the MS troubleshooting and HP troubleshooting sites and
none really related to the problem I'm having.
I doesn't seem like a driver problem, but something's fooling with
the communication between the software programs.
How can I capture a video image from my digital camera?
in The Digital Darkroom: Process, Technique & Printing
Posted
I probably didn't phrase that right, but the question pertains to
being able to capture one or two frames from the mpg file I took with
my digital camera. Am I clear on this? Here's the deal:
I have an HP Photosmart 850, and used the video clip setting to
capture some action at a ball game. I want to be able to get one good
frame out of a sequence. Any help?
Thanks in advance
