The existing Epson driver for the R800 doesn't provide acceptable color with Snow Leopard. There have been a lot of posts about this. Epson employees, through these posts, have said that Epson is coming out with a new driver for Snow Leopard in December, now January. Who knows. I like my R800, but ready to give up.

The Epson photo printer at that price point is now the R280. If you are looking for photo
quality as your main objective, go with this over the C88. I use the R800, and based on
experience with numerous printers, definitely recommend Epson for photos.

The new iMac, if bought with 1 gig of ram, comes with the 1 gig in one slot with one open
slot. This is an improved approach for Apple. You can add another gig later easily and at a
good price. I have been very happy with Crucial. They have what appears to be the correct 1
gig memory card for under $50, but I would wait until they update their database with the
new iMac to be sure.

Kirkland is a private label of Costco. They don't manufacture anything. They buy products
made by manufacturers in the specific product areas, and have the manufacturer supply the
product in Costco's packaging. Costco doesn't specialize in photo paper or baby formula, but
the companies that manufacture the products certainly do.
For some well know manufacturers, this enables them to sell into certain retail channels
without hurting their existing markets.

Out of curiosity, I just got mine out to see exactly what it does. I have the AF-D version. The
limit switch does stop the lens in both auto and manual focus, from the long end down to 3
feet, and from the macro end up to 2.5 feet. The close focus limit is marked at 1 foot, but
that is to the back of the lens. The lens extends a lot when focused to the closest distance,
that, sharp at f2.8, the end of the lens is about 4 to 5 inches from the subject. If you can't get
to this point, you probably have a problem. I hope this helps.

One more opinion, I have two Macs both around 4 years old: an I-Mac and Powerbook, and,
at the office, a six month old Dell notebook. The old Macs are considerably more stable than
the new Dell. I can say with confidence that the Dell has crashed more in six months than
both Macs combined in four years.
I just purchased Lightroom for the Powerbook and it runs like a charm. I can honestly say
that I plan to upgrade from my Powerbook within a year or so, and I won't even consider
anything but Mac. I agree with those that say that Mac's are competitive with like machines,
but even at a somewhat higher price, the quality and stability are well worth it.

With reasonable eyesight, the difference is apparent. The shots from the D200 are clearly
better in every case here. The D40 shots would be acceptable to most shooters, but to say
they are almost equal is a stretch. You get what you pay for.
Thanks for presenting a clear comparison.

Thanks for the responses. I and referring to the flash mounted on the camera in TTL-BL
mode.

I just recently purchased an SB800 flash to use with my D200. Flash exposure compenstion can be set on
both the camera and the flash. I want to confirm that setting this on the D200 will have the exact same
effect as setting it on the SB800. From what I can tell this is the case, but would like to be sure. Thanks.
By the way, anyone using the D200 should definately get the SB800. Great combination.

I have used the ultra premium on the R800. It gives a little bit more depth than the premium
due to a slightly higher gloss level, but not really a big difference. I use the premium a lot
more often as it is cheaper and very close in print quality.

I bought one a few weeks ago at a Best Buy in Orange County, CA. A few days earlier, I had
called a few camera stores in the area and left my name and number. Within a week of
getting the camera, all three called saying that had received some. B&H might be one of the
few places that doesn't have it in stock. I just checked Best Buy and Circuit City on line, and
both show it available. Unless you really only want to buy from B&H, I would suggest a little
looking around. I don't think it would take too much to find one at this time. By the way, I am
very satisfied with the D200 after using a F5 for the past 10 years.
