1. Not sure what you mean by two batteries. Several companies make batteries for the 5D and other cameras that use the same model. I've had good and bad experiences with them.

    One off of ebay didn't work at all in either of 2 chargers or in the camera. Was fortunate enough to get refunded for it.

    Another I bought from from a photography store has a higher mAh than the Canon battery and a fraction of the price and works great.

  2.
After searching through previous posts, I'm still left wondering what people

    think about the 3rd party grips for the 5D such as <A

I know that sometimes it doesn't pay to buy cheap knock offs, but sometimes

    it does. I've been pretty happy with 3rd party lens hoods and remotes (though I

    understand a battery pack is in a different category).

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who's actually bought/used one and

    if you were to buy again, would you rather just spend a couple extra bucks and

    get Canon.

  3. Are the pins actually broken, or just bent? How many?

    This might not be of help, but that happened to a card reader of mine. I was able to open it for better access to the pins and then straighten the pin out fairly good with needle-nose pliers. Then I straightened and aligned it by pushing a CF card in and out carefully a couple of times.

    Depending on how accessible the pins are, and how handy you are it might be worth a try. I'd contact Canon first to see how much it would cost if they fixed it.

  4. I've used Omni Remote. It worked pretty good, but the driver didn't work too well with the keyboard driver. That may or may not be an issue for you. One nice thing about the program is you can create macro functions to release the shutter "X" number of times at "Y" seconds apart. Great for time elapse. The only technicality is that you need a Canon remote to create the IR signal that the Palm needs to "learn." If you have one, can borrow one from a friend, or take care of that small programming detail in your neighborhood camera store you'll be fine.
  5. Just saw the <a

    Mark II N posted on Canon's Website, and saw no notice of it here.

    FYI:

    Canon's new EOS-1D Mark II N can record 8.5 frames-per-second for up

    to 48 frames in one burst. It features Canon's proven 8.2 Megapixel

    CMOS sensor with a 1.3x conversion factor, combined with the speed and

    intelligence of the DIGIC II Image Processor, all in a rock-solid,

    metal body. Adding the ability to record RAW and JPEG images on

    different memory cards, a larger 2.5 inch LCD, Canon's "Picture Style"

    technology and more, the 1D Mark II N's formidable combination of

    speed and resolution makes it the choice of pros everywhere.

    Did we all miss this coming down the pipeline?
00DUag-25573684.jpg.0e84fbb3e77d6d95b1671b09a90e29f5.jpg

  6. Another option I'm playing around with is using a Palm or Pocket PC. There are a couple of programs that you can use to imitate the Canon IR remote. Just google Palm IR remote, and a few will come up. Using the macro function in the program you can set it to release the shutter as frequently as you want, for as many frames as you want. I'm not sure if you have access to such equipment, but it is fun.
  7. 3. I was wondering the same thing for pretty much all of the Normal and WA Primes. I can't seem to find one that meets all my criteria:

    * Good build quality like my 85mm 1.8 (28mm 1.8 sounds good, but the optics apparently suck)

    * Ring type USM

    * Communicate distance info (which the 50mm 1.4 doesn't do either)

    * Doesn't come with the "L" Pricetag.

    based on this criteria, none of Canon's WA primes really pass. Canon, are you listening?

  8. Nunca.
