<p>I try to use both eyes at the same time. When both sides of my brain cooperate.</p>

<p>Understanding composition and how it relates to story telling.</p>

<p>Dammit, I just got the memo. I wish I had met you, Al. And thank you.</p>

<p>Speed to distance, I'm thinking...</p>

<p>I am having problems with the image upload page. I get the working icon for "Loading Aurigma Image Uploader Java Applet..." and it just sits there until I give up. Is there an old version of the upload page to use?</p>
<p>So, yeah, I tried again and still get nothing.</p>

<p>Well, I wrote him a note. FWIW.</p>

<p>"Also, when I'm doing the post processing how should I save? I'm sorry if that's a dumb question, but should I just "save as" in NEF format until I'm done? Then convert to JPEG or TIFF? I tend to do a lot of work over time and "save as" a lot. I don't do all my work on one photo in one sitting."</p>
<p>I would save as a PSD until finished. When done; flatten and save as TIFF.</p>

<p>IF you are shooting something that has the potential of becoming something to print or publish, shooting in Raw+jpg is the way to go.<br>
This allows you to practice on getting it right in jpg but also lets you have a deeper file to print should you want to later.</p>

<p>Perhaps I missed it but what is the problem in fetching only images that are marked "unmanipulated"? It seems that when we had this discussion, years ago, there was talk that the search would fetch images in existance (and manipulated) before the button was conceveived. Is this correct? </p>

<p>something like this...<br /> http://kmcgee11.fotki.com/<br /> KirkMcgee studios allowing anyone to view and buy other peoples wedding pics...<br /> I guess its easy but doesn't feel right.<br /> All my clients images are personal with the exception of promotion. <br /> WTF</p>

I really like Yul Brynner's work. His daughter produced a book of her fathers work. It's floating around out there. He would carry his camera everywhere, even on the sets of his movies and hide it in various places to take shots between scenes.

It was always to complicated to those who didn't understand it. F-stops and distance and aperture and iso and lenses and developing and chemicals and time and baths and light, jeezus! Light!. Lots of complications, it hasn't changed much for me, just a little different.

Henry, yes. Based solely on the images in your first link I would say they do not live up to the standard of NG that is in my head. You do have nice work though, as well as Clive. I am afraid I have no pics of Japan to show though. Maybe next time...

Thank you all for your comments, you have been most enlightening.

Those are interesting questions, El Fang. I often wonder the same things about the professional journalist,
especially the integrity aspect. I believe that you can find most of the information that is in the AP book free
on the web though, so I am not to sure what it would matter if a citizen journalist had ever heard of it. Also;
the editing I see in many papers has much to be desired.
If a citizen journalist is covering an event like the RNC and is shooting stills or video, I don't see much
difference as long as there is some understanding of the legal landscape, i.e.; where you can stand and shoot in
a public place. The major difference, I would suppose, is in the publishing, as you eluded to.

Any citizen journalist out there? How do you approach your work and where do you share? Stories? Do you feel
you should be afforded the same respect as any other photojournalist working for a local or regional paper? Is
this the right forum?
Just listening to a live feed from St. Paul about the latest RNC debate probs and wondering if this kind of stuff
affects any of you.

200 to 300 mm lens will help as well.

I don't see a tangent thread, though. I loved those.
