  1. David : Yes indeed, my 105/2.5 lens is a non-AI C-type Nikkor P.C. version (the one with the big rear element and five philips screws) and it still is in its original condition (not AI'd). My 135/2.8 is the latest AIS version with a wobbly built-in lens hood.
  2. Nice compact, lightweight lens and much faster to work with than my 105/f2.5 which has a horribly long focus throw! Common opinion on the internet made me regret having bought the 135/2.8 instead of the famed 105/2.5 but now owning both of them (=NAS) I prefer the rapid focusing ability of the 135/2.8 (just my personal feeling).
  3. Lester, Isn't this a great forum. Where in other forums you sometimes have to run for cover, here we have a great bunch talking from old cameras to good food and beautiful women. It's almost like all of us sitting 'round a big table with some wine and petty talking the hours away. I can almost smell the warm evening air and hear the crickets...
  4. A good old-fashioned shoe repairman can do this better than anyone. He has the right tools, machine and thread at hand and if he slips with the needle, at least it won't be in your fingers. I doubt you can re-stitch the case yourself with a regular machine. If the shoemaker asks too much for the job it might be better to find a replacement case on the auction site.
  5. Alberto, if you made ALL these mistakes on just one and the same film, then I guess a rangefinder camera is not for you. LOL, made some of those mistakes myself though ! You should see the film I just got back today : made with a Bilora Bella (4x4cm format on 120 film). Upon seeing the contacts my wife said to my son : 'And your father thinks he is a photographer?' Next time I don't show them anything anymore. (And to think that I was so proud that I got the Bella's focusing ring to move again AND managed to reassemble the whole thing again!)

Thanks for the funny pics Alberto.

  6. Dan & Kelly, thanks for the interesting tips. Seems you can never have enough rings, adapters and stuff. Not so long ago I bought a fine Minolta XE-5 (impls buy - it loked so good) and found an original and NIB Minolta P-adapter (Praktica Mount Adapter) for USD9.00. It allows for infinity focus (not so with Nikon/M42 adapters that have no lens in it) and is intended to experiment with old M42 lenses. I guess that's a start for a ring and tube collection... ;-)

BTW, have you seen the 'Lens Conversion Project for a Rainy Day' by Bjorn Rorslett? It's at http://www.naturfotograf.com/index2.html

  7. Dan, great info. I'am at work and couldn't check my catalogs for correct details. I will print out and keep your response for future reference. Myself I'm thinking of a more 'solid state' take-along device than a bellows - like a tube with helicoid onto which to use all sorts of enlarger lenses etc. to experiment with. Do you think that is doable? (sorry to hijack your thread Richard, perhaps it's interesting for you too?)
  8. Perhaps pictures don't add much to the discussed topic in other forums, execept where it illustrates a camera/lens problem. Otherwise there are W/NW or other places on PNet where people can show off and where frankly nobody cares what camera the pic was made with. In this forum however, as said above, the result IS important because with classic cameras the lens qualities were and are different. It can be especially important to show what unexpected qualities an old and unknown lens or camera had. Or still has after being resurrected, rescued, cleaned or restored. I also like to see a picture of the camera used. And like CE said : seeing the camera sometimes makes me want one of those too, hehe. Without this forum I would certainly buy less classic cameras and perhaps even loose much of my interest in them. You guys not only make me buy junk, you also make me shoot pictures again. It's like Bruce's great Devils and Dust concert in Brussels yesterday evening : he makes me want to buy a guitar... again (although I can't play!).
